Description

Detached barn conversion in tranquil setting, Royal Forest of Dean close by to explore, Tintern abbey and Gloucester cathedral nearby.

Situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, these two detached barn conversions (refs W43364 and W43365) are spaced away from each other in the grounds of the owner’s 13th-century farmhouse. From this tranquil setting, visitors can explore the unique Royal Forest of Dean, enjoyable in all seasons, and the Lower Wye Valley, the magnificent borderland between England and Wales. Stunningly beautiful, there is a diverse range of places to visit that cater for all ages and tastes. The variety of scenery, wealth of historic attractions and selection of way-marked paths makes this area excellent walking country that offers a paradise for serious hikers, ramblers or after lunch strollers. The hamlet of Stowe, dating back to the 5th century, is a mile or so distant from Clearwell, with its famous caves, the magical Puzzlewood, as featured in BBC programmes ’Dr Who’ and ’Atlantis’, and the historic village of St Briavels, with its ancient, moated castle. Tintern, renowned for its impressive abbey, the cathedral cities of Gloucester and Hereford, the Cotswolds, Malvern and the Welsh Hills are all within easy driving distance. Coleford is 3 miles, Lydney 6 miles, Monmouth 7 miles, Chepstow 10 miles and Ross-on-Wye 15 miles. Several golf courses nearby. Shop, pub and restaurant 1.5 miles.

An enjoyable holiday in great comfort and lovely surroundings. Jenny phillips was most welcoming and anxious to please and readily agreed that my mentioning the (very) small matter of illumination over the cooker was not unreasonable. We would be very happy to visit again and cannot speak too highly of the property and of our very warm welcome Thank you Jenny for helping to make our stay at the Stables so agreeable

The Stables were very good in every way; especially the location very peaceful but close to many places of interest. The Butchers Arms in Coleford was very good for meals

We were met by a lovely lady, who welcomed us to her brilliant little cottage, that had all the comforts of home. The scenery is fantastic ( it reminded me a lot of where I grew up near Whitby). There is so much to do in the area, we like history so plenty of castles. Clearwell Caves were brilliant, Tintern Abbey, Chepstow, Abegavenny, Monmouth and Ross on Wye all worth a visit. Cardiff and Gloucester were lovely cities. We had two glorious weeks in this area and we are definitely going back in a few years time.
