In the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country and in the perfect position for exploring Cumbria, Northumberland, the Lake District National Park and Scottish Borders!

The picture postcard Stoneybeck is a spacious, detached cottage which oozes character and charm, superbly situated in a quiet location, ideal for exploring the area. Nestled in the heart of Greenhead, Stoneybeck is the ideal base for walkers and cyclists, and is within walking distance of Hadrian’s Wall. Stoneybeck is in a great location to discover Northumberland, the Lake District and the Scottish Borders. The area has been awarded UK National Park Dark Sky status and there are two purpose built observatories at Kielder, as well as one about a mile from the cottage. Northumberland, with its National Park, is just a few miles away from the cottage. Hadrian’s Wall is on your doorstep, and a visit to Vindolanda is a must, where you can watch the archaeologists excavating, or visit the museum to see the famous writing tablets. After a long day exploring, relax in the garden or take a walk to Greenhead village to enjoy a good meal and a well earned drink. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Stoneybeck is a very comfortable house set in wonderful countryside. The description is exactly as it is spacious and well equipped. The two dogs loved the rayburn, lying in front of it was their treat ! Lorriane is contactable and provides guidance on the little quirks that arise when staying in a different property. We had a great time and would definitely stay again.

The cottage is lovely. It's been recently restored and the owners have spent many months and lots of effort repairing and redecorating it. It was exceptionally well placed for us as it's very close to Hadrian's Wall. Lovely pub in Gilsland about a mile away. My main reservation about it is that the main heating and cooking are provided by a solid fuel rayburn. There is a hob and microwave/grill. But the microwave is really too small to cook for 8 people. If you need an oven then you have to light the rayburn. This might not be so bad in winter as the extra warmth would be welcome, but in summer i did not expect to be shifting coal and clearing out ashes. There is underfloor heating and a woodburner in the lounge, plus some portable electric heaters, but it seems no other heating unless the rayburn is lit. So if you are eating out or happy to cook on the hob/microwave this is a lovely place to stay.
