Description

Peacefully situated within extensive grounds with plenty of space for 14 guests, Stockbatch Granary makes an ideal retreat at any time of year.

Peacefully situated within the extensive grounds of the Pitchford Estate, these three properties offer superb holiday accommodation. Windy Mundy Farm (RNG) has been converted from an 18th-century threshing barn and deer shelter and is located on an old deer park at the centre of the estate. Built on top of a south-facing hill overlooking Row Brook, and part of a working arable farm, it is surrounded by fields of wheat and barley and has spectacular, far-reaching views towards the Shropshire hills. Enclosed by a long stone wall, the farm has its own courtyard garden with a terrace and barbecue. Stockbatch Granary (RJ6) is reached by a mile-long drive passing through the mixed arable land of Stockbatch Farm, with its fields of corn encircled by woodland. It comprises an 18th-century granary, clapperboard barn, stables and cowsheds, and nestles on a south-facing slope, at the bottom of which a stream wends its way gently along. A courtyard garden enclosed by a red sandstone wall provides a pleasant sitting-out area from which to survey the countryside views. Tree House Barn (RDDJ) is a sensitively restored detached barn conversion which enjoys views of the world famous Pitchford Tree House (the oldest tree house in the world).
Within 6 miles of each property is historic Shrewsbury with its fascinating architecture, castle, museums, fine shops and wealth of traditional inns and restaurants. Easily accessible is popular Church Stretton, and Shropshire’s finest town Ludlow, framed by the gentle Clee Hills, with its impressive castle, magnificent church, many half-timbered buildings and Georgian red-brick houses. Bridgnorth has what is reputed to be the steepest cliff railway in Britain and superb cliff-top walks overlooking the River Severn below. From here, during summer, the Severn Valley Railway’s steam train chugs the scenic 16-mile route to Kidderminster. Attingham Park (NT), Benthall Hall (NT), Ironbridge Gorge and the old market town of Much Wenlock (with its medieval priory) are all within easy driving distance. Riding, sailing, fishing, golf, pubs and restaurants locally. Shop 2 miles, pub 6 miles.

The strongest features of this property are a) its spaciousness, b) its location in beautiful Shropshire scenery with easy access to many places of interest, c) the fact that all bedrooms are en suite and d) the ample parking space however large your group. Its weaknesses are a) that much of the furniture is very 'tired', b) that some bedrooms have inadequate hanging space, c) that the carpet and mats in the main sitting area are in places grubby or very worn, and d) that two of the bedrooms have toilet facilities that lack full privacy with the result that some parties may feel unable to use them as double rooms.

We had an absolutely fantastic joint 30th birthday weekend - 2 families, 2 couples, 2 singles. We all had plenty of our own space, and the communal areas were perfect too. Luxury! I'm a person without pets of my own and I can say the fact that the place accommodates pets needn't put anyone off. It was spotless and not at all smelly. The only minor downside was that everything is a drive a way. There's plenty to do - we did Ironbridge and Attingham Park, but not much on the doorstep. Having said that, we had a lovely walk around the Pitchford Estate itself on one day we were there. We would definitely stay here again.

Loved our stay here, it was a big family re-union. The Granary was excellent, bathrooms attached to all bedrooms which is a big plus at our age, constant hot water! The only two draw backs, were the fire billowed smoke for a time due to damp logs supplied and I think the chimney needed cleaned, and the other disappoint was in the games room the temperature was freezing no heating okay it was February! The basketball was extremely high! In the summer it must be lovely.

The house was large but lacking in modern facilities, the TV did not work as a TV which caused a bit of an issue, you could only play dvd's through it and there was no CD player/ radio, which would be a basic requirement for most places. An iPod speaker dock did not work either. There was a lack of saucepans cooking trays etc, which was not too bad for a short stay, especially as a great deal of the food we had already prepared, but would have been difficult for a full week of catering for 14 people. Wifi speed very slow. Most bedrooms were of a good standard and all are ensure, with the exception of one upstairs room where the bathroom is behind a curtain, including the toilet, which is a little odd. The location was great but we would probably not return as a group to this particular property. The games room is great but is completely unheard and access is through this to the majority of the bedrooms.

Beautiful location, lovely big house, peaceful and the added touch of all the rooms having there on ensuite was lovely. Nice and clean throughout, two fridge freezers for all our stuff, and a nice big cooker made it just right for a big group like ours. Directions for getting there were ok, but missed the end bit where there's quite a long lead in to the actual property, this led us to think we were in the wrong place. Would definitely stay again.
