stayed while the country suffered from the beast from the east snow and minus degrees but the cottage was warm and comfortable with unlimited supply of fuel for the log burner the views are wonderful and with over 30 acres of ground to stroll around from the door and so many places to visit it is hard to fit it all in so we will return later in the year. wonderful welcome and the cottage is so private and peaceful with loads of birds to feed a real escape to the country

Had a lovely time at the cottage. If you like dark skies it’s a great place to go. The field behind you can walk in and the are some lovely walks from the cottage. The owner is lovely as well. Made us very welcome.

My satnav took me to Mavis Cottage, just 2 houses before Steepholm, and with the owner's house in between the two, so it was very easy to find. Had a lovely 2 day break with my brother, nephew & niece, and my big greyhound, and wished I could have extended it to 5 days. Thanks to it being a 3 bedroom bungalow, none of us had to sleep on the sofa, and my bungalow-dwelling dog didn't have to take a crash course in climbing stairs! Great rural setting, but with shops and pubs conveniently close by, and good 4G coverage, so comms etc were no problem. Marjorie was a friendly and helpful host, the house was cosy and comfortable with a log burner in the lounge making it feel really homely, but has a lovely big dining room and good kitchen for entertaining bigger groups if wished, and the house and region are very pet friendly. Only minor negatives are i) the fact that there is only one bathroom/loo, but even with 4 adults used to living in 3 homes we managed without problem for the period, and ii) my tall nephew felt a bit cramped in the double room. If we were all to stay there again I would suggest he use the twin room which is more spacious. I enjoyed the stay, and hope to go back again.

Steep Holm is in a nice peaceful location with superb views over to Wales. Picked up the keys from Mrs Jones on the way who was very welcoming and showed us around the cottage explaining where everything was etc. Cottage had everything we required for a relaxing week away and Kington only a short drive away was handy for all provisions with 2 butchers and a bakers with a large co -op supermarket tucked away round the back of the main street with a cash machine which was handy as there is no bank in Kington now Chinese takeaway was very handy for the first night with reasonably priced good food with generous portions. Found a very cosy inn a couple of miles away in Huntington which is run by a lovely lady who spent time to sit with us around the fire and make a fuss of our greyhound there was a great selection of bottled beers and ciders (no food and closed lunchtimes and sun and mon eves) Had a great time in this part of Herefordshire and will definitely try and book again
