I enjoyed my stay at Arkle. The cottage was comfortable and great to come home to each evening. A beautiful area to stay with lots to do. I particularly enjoyed Sudeley Castle which is nearby.

Lovely location. Shame about the cottage. It had an investation of woodlice and dead insects in some of the cupboards. A previous guests nail clippers had been left in a drawer. We couldn't use the BBQ as it hadn't been cleaned. Beds were very comfortable and the owner was very pleasant. The welcome pack of biscuits and milk was much appreciated. With a thorough spring clean this cottage would be very nice.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. I have previously said that we have had the Pest Control Officer around, and he has looked at building and treated the wood lice. He has pointed out that it is an old farm building which has been converted. I will contact him again. Regarding cleaning, the cottage is cleaned mostly by myself and a cleaner (unless I am away then I use an agency), we check cupboards etc. weekly, the sofas are moved and dusted and vacuumed behind, and a thorough dusting takes place. The kitchen and bathroom are cleaned and disinfected, and all washable floors washed. We do ask that the BBQs are left clean, if you had popped over to the house we could have sorted that out for you. The cottage is in a beautiful area with plenty of lovely pubs, and superb walking.

Unfortunately like some of the previous reviews had said, the house was not as clean as one would expect. I had to sweep up the dead woodlice on the kitchen floor when we arrived. The toilet had to be cleaner (urine on it) and the bathroom was grubby and old. The carpet at the top of the stairs was disgustingly dirty too. The kitchen needed a good clean - the cupboards and handles were all greasy. I don't think anyone had cleaned Under the toaster or microwave for a while and the over was black ! We were 5 guests however there was not enough cutlery - only 4 forks and 3 teaspoons. The draws looked like a Junk shop (everything was just thrown in). The cleaning materials were just an old vacuum and small brush. No mop and bucket to clean the kitchen and bathroom floors. It is a real shame as I think the cottage has a lot of potential - the lounge was lovely and the small garden. The kitchen, with a good clean and some matching cutlery and plates etc, is cute and welcoming with its stable door. I liked the doors and the cupboards throughout the house and the main bedroom was fine. I would suggest a normal single bed for the second bedroom, and a put-up bed for an extra guests, instead of the imposing pine bunk beds. This would make the room feel bigger and allow guests the open the curtains and the window (an important point for me). The bathroom needs to be re-done in general. Very poor condition. With a few in-expensive and elegant touches, together with some attention to detail (changing stained and wonky light shades / new vacuum / kitchen sink bowl that actually fits the sink ! / matching cutlery and plates/ glasses etc) and a new cleaner : I would return with pleasure as the location is lovely, Winchecomb too.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you were disappointed about the standard of the cleaning in the cottage. I was away the week before and I employed a cleaner I will have a strong word with her. I usually clean the cottages myself. The kitchen had a full spring clean a couple of weeks before your arrival, when all cutlery etc. was checked, so I am at a loss to explain why some was missing. If you had come over to the house I would have given you replacements. A mop and bucket has now been put into the laundry room, and a new vacuum cleaner. The bathroom is going to be redecorated and new curtains are being made for the lounge. We try to update furnishings as needed. The cottage is old, however the wood lice issue has been checked by a surveyor and I have followed his advice. I do however feel that the cottage is good value for money.

The house was too loud. The matrasses too bad.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your review, the mattresses in all of the cottages are memory foam and I agree are on the firm side. All of the beds have mattress toppers. I am unsure how to reply to the comment that the house was loud. It is an old building and does have the odd creak.
