Description

Light and spacious barn conversion, with miles of scenic walks in the Meon Valley, South Downs within easy reach.

Amidst beautiful rolling countryside and farmland, set in the grounds of the owner’s farmhouse within a working farm, Drayton Farm Barns (PDDP, PDDQ & PDDR) have been skillfully converted from one large barn. Offering plenty of light and space, these beautifully presented barns have been tastefully furnished to a high specification. Henwood (PDDR) is an ‘upside down’ house, designed with the living area on the first floor to take advantage of the superb countryside views. They enjoy shared use of a large lawned garden, and direct access to miles of scenic walks in this wonderful part of Hampshire within the Meon Valley, with the river meandering through the farmland.
Just over a mile is the quaint thatched roof village of East Meon, which has shops, a church and two renowned pubs serving good food. West Meon (where Thomas Lord rests, founder of Lords cricket) is also close by with award-winning butchers and pub. Within easy reach are the glorious South Downs, Portsmouth with Nelsons Victory, The Mary Rose, waterside dining, designer shopping and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight, as well as Winchester Cathedral, Southampton with its extensive maritime history, the vast heathland walks and riding in The New Forest, historic Chichester with cathedral and festival theatre, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s House, Gilbert White’s House, Birdworld and Marwell Zoo. London is about an hour by train from nearby Petersfield. Shops 1½ miles.

Open-plan living/dining room with kitchen area and oak floor. First floor: Double bedroom with
5ft bed, TV and en-suite shower room with toilet. Twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet. Beams throughout.

We loved it, suited us (2 couples) perfectly, excellent finishing touches (welcome pack, photo album of the building conversion, etc) and the owners were great. I highly recommend this property.

The cottage was great, but I should have done more research. I am somewhat disabled and the stairs turned sharply at the top with nothing to hold onto. The shower had a very high step and nothing to hold onto so I couldn't use it.

I think for amount it wasn't worth it, you're in very close proximity to other cottages and other holiday-ers which took away from the reason I was there.

This was very cosy, comfortable and clean accommodation, perfect for a two-couple holiday as it had two separate bath/shower rooms. However, one important concern was that the external lighting wasn't operating fully and hence it was dark and difficult to come down the steps from the car parking area and to access the communal freezer/washing machine hut.

Cottage perfectly met our needs for a long weekend to visit our daughter. Lovely little born conversion on a working farm. It would have been nice to spend longer and enjoy the immediate vicinity more. Would recommend the accommodation.

The cottage was very homely and comfortable and cleaned to a high standard. It is set on a working farm which provided an interesting backdrop to the holiday. As such it is some way outside the village but a pleasant 2-3 mile walk through the fields and woods to East Meon or a 5 minute drive by road. The owners were friendly and eager to ensure we were happy with the accommodation. One improvement if possible would be a proper shower (not hand held) in the twin en suite. We appreciated the welcome pack of milk, wine, crisps, biscuits as well as tea and coffee.
