Description

Stable cottage is in a area perfect for walks including a hidden little gem, Challacombe Reservoir.

Located on the vast Woolhanger Estate, these three highly individual, detached holiday properties (refs HTTH, HTTJ and HTTK) have been converted from old farm buildings to provide very comfortable, well-appointed accommodation. They offer a quiet haven but with plenty to do on the doorstep. There is great walking on the many footpaths in the area, including up to Challacombe Reservoir, a hidden little gem. The working farm estate has a wonderful wedding venue location in its spectacular Victorian music room and the cottages can be used in conjunction with Woolhanger Farmhouse to provide accommodation for guests. As well as walking on Exmoor, there is plenty to do within easy reach of the cottages. In Ilfracombe there are the Tunnel Beaches, harbour and numerous shops and restaurants, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Watermouth Castle and at Lynton, the funicular railway runs to Lynmouth, or take a trip on the narrow gauge railway at Woody Bay. At Croyde and Woolacombe are some of the best surfing beaches in the country as well as many small coves and bays. There are NT properties at Arlington and Knightshayes and RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Great Torrington. Shop and pub 500 yards.

    Probably the best appointed cottage we have stayed in and we've been doing this a few years.Area is beautiful, local amenities- the pub- The Black Venus- and the PO Store are exceptionally good.

    Lovely comfortable cottage. Superb welcome pack. Lack of wifi and mobile signal a disadvantage but ensured a peaceful week! Lots of lovely places nearby to visit.

    The cottage was very nice and well equipped. The welcome pack was excellent the drizzle cake didn't last very long. The cottage would benefit a bright security light so you can see your dog at night. People have complained about no WiFi or mobile coverage inside the cottage but this was a welcomed relief . If needed you could go into the garden and get this if required.

    Pros: enjoyed our stay at Stable Cottage and the welcome pack was much appreciated. The accommodation is very well thought out with open plan kitchen/diner plus living area and two good sized bedrooms upstairs. The cottage provided a very good base to explore North Devon and visiting Dartington Crystal and Atlantic Village is recommended. Cons: the local water pressure is low so a pump is used to increase pressure and this is situated in the loft above the second bedroom and is very noisy in operation. I found it very difficult to sleep because of the pump powering up during the night for no apparent reason, this was remedied by giving me access to the isolater in the locked bedroom cupboard. We missed wi-fi as there is no mobile signal. One or two kitchen items needed replacing ie, frying pan and pot ovenware. Overall a good experience but some attention to detail is required to justify a 10/10 rating relative to cost

    Bathroom door and the second bedroom door needs adjusting and lack of hanging space in the bedroom and the bathroom and the way it's very goodThe television with not working very well the landlines needed The garden is great for my little dog is very secure he cannot get out and very happy with the garden

    Lovely cottage, very well equipped with comfortable rooms. The location is very nice on the edge of Exmoor with easy road links.

    Only negatives are: 1) The lack of enough hot water, even for two people, so don't know how you would get on with four. 2) Signage around the farm to say it's private land, thus the feeling they don't want you walking the dog down the lane. So felt a bit trapped in the cottage and small garden. Cottage too small to suit 4 adults, but the two of us had a lovely time and would return.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. There is a 24 hour hot water switch in the twin bedroom, accessible to our guests at all times. The Private Land sign had been put in place by an unauthorized person and has now been removed. We welcome all our guests to walk and enjoy the countryside. We are really pleased that despite this, you had a lovely time at Stable Cottage and hope to welcome you back again soon!
