Description

Prize winning beaches are within easy reach, and the whole of the Pembrokeshire National Park is on the doorstep, waiting to be explored.

Nestling just 200 yards from a little cove leading to a wide sandy beach with rock pools at low tide, a range of traditional farm buildings have been lovingly converted to create seven delightfully bright and very comfortable cottages. Decorations and a tree are provided for Christmas and New Year bookings. Furnished in smart modern style yet retaining much local charm and individuality, they sit within the Pembrokeshire National Park right on the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast Path – perfect for bird watchers and walkers as well as bucket and spade family holidays. Numerous other prize winning beaches lie within easy reach, dolphins and seals are often spotted in St Bride’s Bay, and riding on the beach at East Nolton is a delight, 7 miles. The area’s water sports are especially good with sea fishing, sailing, diving, surfing and windsurfing at Broad Haven, 5 miles and Dale, 3 miles whilst golf is available at Milford Haven, 6 miles and Haverfordwest – a medieval town just 10 miles distant and home to a castle, good shopping and entertainments – and at St Davids. This tiny jewel of a cathedral city boasts great restaurants and cafés and a major music festival held in May. A cheese farm, woollen mill and lively theme parks are under 20 miles. Golf is within 5 miles of the property. Shops 6 miles, pub 1.5 miles.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with beams. 3 bedrooms: 2 double, one with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and toilet, 1 twin. Wet room with toilet.

Although the property hosted a fair number of cobwebs it was very clean. It would be fair to say the property is 'lived in' - nothing major or anything that would disrupt a holiday - microwave didn't work properly and the markings had been cleaned off the hob and oven - that just added to the adventure of cooking a meal !! Overall the cottage was well supplied and more than adequate for the holiday and we had a great time.

Generally St Brides Cottage was fine. The property is very nice, and the location is also good, with plenty of nice beaches, coves etc. withing striking distance, and walks etc. from the front door if you're minded to do such things. I do think the cottage was let down a little bit by lack of attention to detail. The kitchen was quite poorly equipped with dishes, pans etc. Also, the hot water supply is not very good and the beds, at least the one I slept in, were not especially comfortable. Nothing to bad, I did sleep well enough, but they could be improved. Lastly, if you must have a connection to the outside world, the phone signal and the wi-fi connection are both quite poor. Obviously the phone is outside the control of the owners, but the wi-fi could be much better. Then again, maybe we ought to be able to manage a week of R&R without needing to be checking e-mail etc. every 5 minutes. One last thing, the people we dealt with (re. pots and pans and the TV aerial) were very good, helpful and polite.

Needs more towels for six people. We were asked to leave the property clean but they only provide a brush and dustpan.

On arrival you can see the cottages and grounds were once loved but now run down. The playground looks decrepeded +unsafe and all of the furnishings need putting in the tip. There was one comfy arm chair in the living room and the rest were horrible to sit on. The bed in the master bedroom fell apart after a couple of nights in the middle of the night. It was a really cheap bed frame put together badly and not all the feet touched the ground. The second double was adaquate and the third double had horrible lumpy matresses. The light had blown before we had got there. Luckily there was a dim bedside lamp as there is no way of changing the lightbulbs without a long ladder. Another one of the lightbulbs blew whilst we were there and tripped the electrics. Luckily we had someone tall enough with us to put it back on and phones for lights to see the way. There was no one on the estate and no phone number to call for help. There was a booklet with a bit of aged info talking about a little shop (which was not there) and a games room (which was good) and it also said the hot water was on a meter and there is only enough for four showers in the morning.....the accomadition is for 6 so if there was a full house that could leave to a problem. There was little cooking equipment, no tolliet rolls, soap, pegs to go with the washing line and only one bin bag. The instructions for the washing machine were none exsistent and the others werent in a particularly easy to read. In terms of the setting the place is very remote which will suit some but not others. The cove is good for dog walkers (there is no sign for it though we were luckily and someone told us the way). Also there is little to no mobile recpetion which again is ok for some but as there are no landlines availble you could struggle if there was an accident. I dont normally leave bad reviews but i wasnt at all impressed. I left a letter to let the owers know so they could inprove the service provided and left my contact details. I never heard anything back so i am convinced they just do not care. It is a real shame as the place looks like it was once lovely and someone put a lot of effort in.
