Description

Located in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, this property is ideal for discovering the Cairngorm Mountains and Strathspey Valley.

Squirrel’s Tale Cottage is situated in a wonderful, elevated position in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, and enjoys striking views across the countryside towards the lush Strathspey Valley, River Spey and the majestic Cairngorm Mountains. This lovely property forms a wing of the owners’ Arts & Crafts Grade B listed Broomhill House. It is accessed by a forest drive and nestles amongst 25 acres of private, unspoilt woodlands and well-maintained cottage garden, where you can watch the playful red squirrels and an abundance of rare birdlife, such as golden eagle and osprey. This country cottage makes a perfect base for exploring this lovely part of the Highlands. Excellent mountain biking, canoeing, bird watching, climbing, skiing and infinite hiking trails (easy and strenuous) are all available from the doorstep. There are popular and challenging golf courses, classic car events and some of the world’s famous malt whisky distilleries within easy reach.
Enjoy fly fishing on the River Spey, or for the younger members, visit the Reindeer Visitor Centre, Tree Zone, Landmark Forest Adventure Park or take a trip on the steam train from Broomhill to Aviemore. All towns and villages of the National Park have retained their identity and offer a range of independent stores, art galleries, museums, coffee shops and restaurants. Inverness, the Highland capital, is less than an hour’s drive and offers flights to Amsterdam and all major cities in the UK.
Squirrel’s Tale Cottage has been sympathetically renovated to provide fantastic holiday accommodation in a peaceful and private setting. Within the elegantly furnished cottage there is a comfortable open-plan living room with a wood-burning stove, a country kitchen, spacious shower room and three bedrooms, each providing good quality mattresses and sumptuous bed linen for a good nights sleep. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

A wonderful home from home with very welcoming hosts, Willem and Karin. Squirrels Tale cottage is set in a simply stunning location with easy access to the Cairngorm Mountain range and its centre Aviemore and is only an hour or so from Inverness. We would highly recommend this cottage for a wonderful holiday.

Stunning location, beautifully decorated and furnished accommodation. Could not fault it. Much bigger than it looked in the photos on-line. Would not hesitate to recommend. This is a great place to escape to for peace and tranquility and a great base for walks and visits to local beauty spots.

We had a great time. Karin and Willem looked after us incredibly well. The property is incredibly modern and clean yet very cosy at the same time.

We really enjoyed our Christmas at the cottage, it was beautifully decorated and the welcome pack had freshly made bread on arrival. Our hosts were attentive but not intrusive and were really knowledgable about the area. They were also able to accommodate last minute visitors at broom hill house which is attached to the cottage at short notice but still with high quality and welcoming room. Our daughter loved her room and took great pleasure in roaming the surrounding woods and grounds and building a snowman. I would highly recommend this cottage and the rooms available at broom hill house.

We had a lovely week at Squirrel's Tale cottage in the middle of October. The cottage is in a nice location, only a 15 minute drive from Aviemore and easy to get to a number of attractions, including Landmark Forest Adventure Park. The accommodation is decorated well and has all the necessary equipment and utensils and even has a couple of pairs of really warm 'coldbreaker' slippers for guests. On arrival there were some eggs, milk and homemade bread waiting for us, which was a really nice touch. The woodburning stove was also on so the cottage was lovely and warm. On our first day we were greeted by Willem (one of the hosts) and he was really nice, spent time explaining how to operate the woodburning stove and was happy to answer questions. On the days where we were out exploring, Willem put the woodburning stove on whilst we were out, so that we came back to a nice warm cottage. Our daughter managed to pull out a hook for one of the curtain rail tie-backs, but the hosts didn't make a fuss and fixed it straight away. We would highly recommend a stay here if you are staying in the Aviemore area.

Our stay at Squirrel's Tale exceeded our best expectations. We were met by Willem with a big smile, homemade still-warm bread and a cozy fire burning away in the wood stove. Throughout our stay, they attended to all our needs and gave us perfect ideas for day trips into the National Park. We easily hiked from the cottage door, rented bikes, ride the stream train and visited the small quaint local villages. The beds were amazingly comfortable with the highest quality soft linens. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to make big meals each night of our 4 day stay. When the sun was out, the patio area provided an ability to enjoy the beautiful and private garden with stunning views of the Cairngorms Mountains. The living area is comfortable with comfy couches and wood stove. Karin has successfully worked to incorporate the colors of the natural surrounding into her color scemes inside. Willem has so many handmade touches throughout the cottage. The hosts are there for you if you need them but not obvious so you feel as if you are in your own private secret get-away. This is clearly a labor of love and no detailed has been missed. We cannot recommend this cottage more highly and we will be back in a flash!
