Beautiful setting, to have such a stunning 360 view over Loughrigg Tarn & Elterwater a few hundred yards from your doorstep was lovely. Very peaceful and quiet, yet easily accessible. The table tennis and pool a nice additional facility. Only downside was the property smelt a little damp, probably due to being surrounded by trees, perhaps try using a dehumidifier?

There were some issues with the accommodation which as requested we tried to rectify by direct contact with the owners. Unfortunately they were out of the country and unable to help. The issues were: The internet did not work, log-in details not clear as to which system to log into. The storage heating in the living room didn't function and the accommodation was cold on arrival. Fortunately the weather was not too cold and the small electric fire was just ok. There was no toilet paper in the unit on arrival.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry you had issues with your holiday. As to WIFI, the property is not advertised as having a WIFI connection although as stated in the House book if you are a BT customer, you will find that Squirrels is a hotspot. Further info explains that you can access WIFI in the pool house free of charge. I am surprised you found Squirrels cold. There are 3 storage heaters, 2 in the lounge and 1 in the hall, a 2kw electric fire in the lounge, an independent wall mounted heater in the bedroom and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. If one of the storage heaters was not operating it may have been the settings needed adjusting. Again, user manual is with the house book. I think it a little unfair to suggest no help would be offered. If I was abroad be assured that I would still respond if contacted, I would only be a text message away, and can even recall on one occasion organising the same day replacement of a fridge when I was not personally available. Issues such as you mention I can assure you are taken seriously. As to the issue with the absent toilet roll, I agree this should not have happened and I will take this up with my caretaker to ensure it does not occur again.

Neum Crag is a fine, secluded location wonderfully situated for walking and enjoying the tranquillity of the lake District. There is an office which has local walking maps although opening times are indeterminable. The accommodation is compact, comfortable, clean and well equipped . The only down side was that there was a problem with damp and mustiness particularly in the bedroom. It would have benefited from and electric dehumidifier . The bedroom window was a patio door which meant that you might not want to leave it open overnight as you would with a normal window. One of the storage heaters in the lounge did not appear to be working and the bathroom heater seemed to function intermittently. Had it been really unpleasant cold weather this could have been a problem.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your Reevoo, we note your concerns which are taken seriously, may we respond to each-The Office is not run by us, and we have no control I'm afraid over the opening hours. I will however pass your comment on.We cannot accept that the property is damp. We personally attend Squirrels to check on any maintenance issues at least once a month, often more frequently, and actually attended on your departure date. We certainly saw no issues in relation to damp or indeed mustiness.Mustiness can often be caused by lack of proper ventilation, both the kitchen and bathroom windows can be positioned in such a way as to be secure and allow ventilation at the same time. As to the bedroom doors, these are sliding doors, vents above the doors are best left open and I'm sure would have addressed any issues.Taking your comment seriously, we have left a dehumidifier at Squirrels which we are happy for all guests to use should they feel the need.As to the storage heaters, when we attended one of the heaters was simply switched off at the socket. All are working fine. The bathroom heater is controlled by a timer. This is easily adjusted although may account for why you thought it was only working intermittently. We should make the point that in addition to the storage heaters and the bathroom heater there is a separate independent electric fire in the lounge and independent electric wall mounted heater in the bedroom. Squirrels is never cold."
