These detached (Spout Crag, ref 27784) ) and semi-detached (Lakeshore, ref 27785)) boathouses are in a superb, secluded position over the water on the shore of Lake Windermere. The boathouses are not only an ideal romantic hideaway and walking base, they also provide the ultimate holiday location for enjoying sailing or water sports on Windermere with direct access to the lake, small pier and boat mooring facilities with each property (storage under the boathouse 8m x 2.5m) with a boardwalk at the side. Both holiday properties are tastefully and comfortably furnished throughout, they boast a light and airy living room opening on to a large sun terrace overlooking the lake and fells. A host of Lakeland attractions can be found nearby, including many of Wordsworth’s inspirational locations - his home, Dove Cottage, is open to the public all year. Grizedale Forest, with its Go Ape high wire adventure course, Grasmere and Ambleside are all close by. Take a trip across Lake Windermere on the leisurely steamer, which connects with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall all within easy reach. The South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton is a wonderful day out for all the family, as is the Aquarium of the Lakes at Lakeside and Muncaster Castle with its extensive gardens. We have stayed in this boathouse before in mid-summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. This time it was a colder and darker December week but no less enjoyable with the view being perhaps even more interesting, particularly when snow appeared on the distant mountains. We came prepared for the cold but walked into a warm and welcoming property with all possible mod cons. In fact, our only adverse comments would be that we could not find any instruction leaflet for controlling the heating system which, at times, was almost too hot and that - not surprisingly - the steps down from the road could get a bit icy. Overall, we were delighted and are almost certain to return in the future; whether summer or winter or both remains to be seen.

WOW WOW WOW ! Had a fabulous time here for my 60th Birthday. Could have sat here all day everyday looking at that view, it was amazing. Everything you would ever need in boathouse and more. Was November & it was lovely & warm in the cottage. Bow ness 5 minutes drive, although if you want to go for lunch & a few drinks taxis are available(numbers in boathouse). Lovely Bowness n Windermere have loads of great bars & restaurants. Loads to see. Would go back definitely.

An amazing location (especially for a complete chill out which is why I went) and overall a high spec property that was let down by a few easy to remedy negatives. Replacing the cheap bucks fizz, 99p biscuits and individual UHT milk pots with a bottle of prosecco, better quality locally made biscuits and real milk would have made the 'welcome' pack welcoming. Also the folder for what to do was really tired and VERY out of date - it needs updating. Couldn't get BBC on the TV (not a major problem) but would be helpful to have advised taking DVDs, games (the ones at the property need to be thrown out - lots missing!) and CDs with you in the property information.

Beautiful view over lake Windermere. No local amenities. You have to drive to nearest town. No internet. However it is so relaxing looking over lake. And the drive to Windermere is easy

This was our third time at Spout Crag, the condition etc. never seems to deteriorate. Our only concern ( apart from the weather ! ) was the steps down to the boathouse, made it difficult to carry our dinghy down and back up. But otherwise a wonderful place !
