Description

Luxury holiday cottage with spacious living areas , large enclosed garden and south facing conservatory also benefits from a games room and wi-fi.

This luxurious holiday cottage is spacious, yet intimate, and commands beautiful views of the countryside surrounding the peaceful village of Sheldon, only 3 miles from the market town of Bakewell. The oldest part of the cottage dates from 1800 and has been converted skilfully into a living room with tasteful furnishings, original beams, exposed stone walls and a large fireplace with a multi-fuel burner. There is a large dining area adjacent to the living room and a kitchen which leads into a south-facing conservatory, ideal for breakfast and relaxing. There is a downstairs toilet and utility area. Upstairs has three large double bedrooms (two with en-suite showers) and a bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a 6ft zip and link bed which can be used as a double bed or two single beds. The cottage has Sky TV and wi-fi internet access. Only a few steps from the main cottage is a games room and studio apartment. The large, heated games room has a pool table and table tennis table as well as a drying room for wet clothes and boots. Above the games room is the studio with sitting room and a double bedroom with en-suite. The sitting room has a sofa bed (for alternative sleeping only) and a TV. The cottage stands in an enclosed garden which has driveway parking for four vehicles, flower beds and two lawns. The larger lawn overlooks the nearby fields and hills, and is ideal for ball games. It adjoins a stone-flagged patio area with a built-in barbecue and outside table and chairs. Sheldon has a pub close to the cottage which is friendly and provides good food. The village is within easy reach of Bakewell and Ashford-on-the-Water, and is an excellent starting point for walking, exploring the countryside and visiting Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, the caves around Castleton and many other attractions in the Peak District. Shop 1 mile, pub 100 yards.

This is our second family holiday at Spinney Cottage. It is located in a peaceful village with good local pub. There are lots of wonderful walks direct from the property. It is well equipped and comfortable. Certainly would stay there again.

Thank you we had a really lovely half term with all the family in a perfect cottage in a lovely village. Pretty well perfect!

hot water and heating inadequate there was only enough hot water for 2 showers and there were eight adults and one child. Central heating was programmed to go off in the afternoon and had the weather been colder this would have been a major problem rather than annoying and considering the rental cost this was not acceptable.

Lovely cottage , lots of space for 2 families . Very well equipped with lovely gardens . Unfortunately no heating on during the day which meant we were very cold in the cottage when we were in , due to the extremely bad weather

Good facilities, decoration looking a little tired in places. textured floor tiles not as clean as they might be. had to clear the garden of dog mess before allowing my grand children to play there. Overall a very good property and well placed.

Loved the cottage and the village. Great place for a get together and beautiful walking area. Let down by problems with water leak and hot water timing but sure this was a temporary blip.

On the face of it the cottage was very well presented and equipped with quality items of crockery etc. It was lovely and clean, excepting the pillows and duvet in the main bedroom unfortunately smelt awful, which made it rather unpleasant for those of our party in that room, we felt the pillows and duvet either needed to be cleaned or replaced, no good putting clean linen on top of smelly goods! The central heating thermostat was hidden behind a radiator cover well down one wall and, as stated by the heating engineer, was set at a temperature prescribed by the owner but it was felt this was insufficient in changeable weather and consequently we were carrying electric heaters around the cottage. A way to overcome this situation would have been a switch of some sort which allowed the heating to be on for a set period say two hours. We managed to light a 'real fire' on our last evening at the cottage despite there being no matches or firelighters available! This was our treat to compensate us for being rather chilly on occasions during our stay and very nice it was too. The cottage was spacious, equipment of every kind, overall our stay was most enjoyable. The local pub has to be commended for the food, it was outstanding.

The cottage was lovely, really good for families. The garden area was perfect, sham the weather wasn't better otherwise we would have barbecued all week. The local pub was brilliant, friendly, great beer and good food. Very accommodating to vegetarians. The heating and hot water went on the blink and it took a while to sort out (was Sunday) and some chasing.
