Wootton Bridge Wootton Bridge is a great location with very good facilities for this kind of holiday. The local pub The Sloop is exceptionally good value for meals. Tesco Express, Fish and Chip shop and cashpoint/post office all in a 15 minute walking distance.. There is a launderette (no washing machine in the cottage) although we didn’t use it so couldn't vouch for it. Creek Gardens Our main disappointment was that we felt mislead by the description of the property location. Phrases like “This attractive property forms part of a modern waterside holiday development that is quiet and peaceful” and “Spinnaker is at the end of a row of three” make it sound idyllic and, well, quiet. Whilst the proximity to the creek makes this location intrinsically tranquil, the cottage is absolutely not quiet and peaceful. It might be at the end of a row of three cottages but it is also, on the other side, one property in from - and therefore yards from- a remarkably busy road which serves the PGL centre next door, private houses and camp site beyond. Sounds of children don’t bother us but this does mean there are several coaches up and down the road along with other service vehicles and cars. Creek Gardens has over 40 properties. It has a gravelled road and therefore - this property being only the second house in - the effect is one of being at the entrance to a car park. Sitting out on the deck there is naturally a stream of cars in and out all day. Clearly the owner can do nothing about renovation work that is currently being untaken at a nearby property but work on one of the houses in the Gardens went on every day (including Saturday and Sunday) of our stay. This involved the use of power tools and the usual builder habit of angry sweary conversations into mobile phones. Perhaps the Management Company could have a word? Kitchen The property was clean and the milk in the fridge on arrival appreciated. The saucepans and utensils are all good. There has been a previous complaint about knives, we found them fine although I always take one sharp knife when on holiday as experience suggests this is always a weak link in a self catering kitchen. Possibly we are old fashioned, but we were surprised there was no tea pot but the local charity shop obliged for £2.50. There are only 6 mugs which seems a false economy in a house which allegedly caters for 6 people and offers a full sized dishwasher. It was not clear that there were any recycling arrangements except that we found bags under the sink detailing same. As there were only 2 of us we didn’t have cause to pull out the kitchen table but I imagine seating 6 is a bit of a squeeze. Suggest do not book this if you expect to do that! Hot water There are comments below about the hot water temperature. It is absolutely fine to the sinks but the showers are on the cool side. This was not a particular problem to us during our stay as we were blessed with the most marvellous warm, actually hot weather, but it does need sorting -recalibrating?. One tip I would have written in the guest book, had there been one, was that it is worth experimenting with the water flow to the shower, as dialling back from full seems to increase the temperature. There are instructions about the hot water but this refers to the airing cupboard on the landing which is inaccessible to guests having no door handle! Main bedroom This gets the sun in the morning so a blind or thicker curtains would be helpful. The door situation is slightly farcical. There are three standard doors (door to landing, to ensuite and wardrobe) into a small double bedroom in which there is barely room for two people to be able to walk around either side of the bed. There is a chest of drawers in the wardrobe but the bottom two drawers are unusable. In summary this property would suit a couple, or perhaps a family with one or two small children, or friends who are used to all bunking down together, enjoy people-watching (as it has all the privacy of a beach hut) or plan on going out each day.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. I am very disappointed that you feel the Reevoo rating deserves only a 4.0 out of 10 for your stay at the cottage. Regarding your comment that the cottage is not quiet and tranquil I cannot identify with this as my stays are always seemingly peaceful. Yes there is a private road that serves houses beyond Creek Gardens and an elderly persons home but the traffic is not normally busy. I am not aware of a camp site and I will check that out the next time I am on the Island. Regarding the workmen, unfortunately this is something that is beyond my control. The management company use a private waste collection not a local authority and I don’t know why there are recycling bags present in the cottage. There was a tea pot at the beginning of the season, I can only assume it has been broken by guests and not replaced or has been removed from the cottage. There will be a replacement found. I am sorry that you feel the cottage is small, but at the end of the day it is a holiday residence and does cater perfectly for four guests. There is no mention that the cottage should cater for six guests. I am unable to understand the comment you make about the shower temperature as you seem to contradict yourself by stating that dialling back increases the temperature.

The cottage was well positioned and reasonably well equipped. The major downside was the very poor standard of cleanliness, especially in the shower rooms. Both upstairs showers had plastic guards from disposable razors lying in them. The shower and washbasin of the twin room ensuite had long black hairs in them. This is not acceptable.

As a group of four adults we were disappointed with the following. Saucepans were dirty, the frying pans disgusting. There were no sharp knives, everyone was blunt. Not even the potato peeler worked. Dining at the table, meant we had to pull it into a very small space in the kitchen itself, which was very small to accomodate four people, let alone six. The bathrooms had nowhere to put toiletries. The shower heads were filthy, and the shower doors down stairs very dirty. No one in the group managed to have a hot shower, anytime in the week. Plus each one was given one bath towel and one hand towel for the week. The extractor fans in the bathrooms didn't work. The toilet seat in the en suite is not fitted properly. The second bedroom had no storage facility for clothes, not even a chair. In the main bedroom the chest of drawers fell to pieces on opening the bottom drawers. Underneath the bed in the main bedroom had not been clean, and the same in the second bedroom, socks and tissues had to be removed. it was dirty. The outlook was lovely, and no complaints about the living room.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I sincerely apologise for the issue with cleanliness. I have spoken to the cleaning team and they were amazed and upset at the comments. They have agreed to endeavour to make more thorough checks of properties in the future to make sure that this does not happen again with dirty shower screens and rubbish being left under beds. The cleaning team confirmed the toilet seats were fine when they left Spinnaker? The manager will however, visit the site today and make another inspection, for her own reassurance. The pans in the kitchen are not filthy, they are however, a little old and stained brown from all the use. They will be immediately replaced before the next guests arrive. The knives may not have been as sharp as some people may like but they were not blunt. There is a knife sharpener in the kitchen cupboard, if they had wished to use it. The knives will be immediately replaced before the next guests arrive. I am sorry if the guests felt the storage was not sufficient or the size of the kitchen was not large enough for their liking. It is a 2 bedroom and three bathroom cottage and adequately equipped to sleep up to 4 people. The chest of drawers will be replaced shortly and I am sorry that the drawer slipped off the runner. The extractor fans in the bathrooms do work. It is the local authority building control that with regulations insist that there is an isolation switch on the outside of each bathroom. I would imagine that the guests didn't use the isolation switch above the bathroom door. With regard to not having hot showers, they were fine at the beginning of the season and there have only been one family in the cottage before these guests. So I am surprised at this comment. It will be checked out. All the instructions are available to guests in the welcome folder.

I really enjoyed my stay. The house was very comfortable and welcoming. It was also very clean. If it had had a bath, it would have been perfect.

Location of the cottage is further from the village than we had anticipated when we booked. Not really within easy walking distance of shops, pubs and takeaways as we had hoped. Cottage is pleasant enough, but in a small complex of holiday houses and flats. Can be quite noisy if people are moving in/out early. Property overlooks the Creek, but no access to the Creek from the site.
