Fantastic cottage, very quiet, fields of sheep and horses in the fields either side of the massive garden perfect location for discovering N. Yorks. Cottage had everything you needed and more brilliant!

We had a lovely time at Southview and the large lawn is great. It is private with no neighbours close by - the nearest being the horses and sheep! It is well placed for accessing the North York Moors and coast. Southview is fairly well-equipped and is generally clean. The shower, which is located in the master bedroom, is a little strange as there is no door to the shower area. This worked ok for us as we are a family but 2 couples may struggle. We would return if we wanted to visit the area again.

The cottage is dated and in need of a makeover. There is a smell in the utility room but only when the door has been closed for an hour or so (This smell could have come from the dirty recycling boxes left in there). We had one toilet roll and one kitchen bin liner (both already in place) to last three people for a week. So we had to buy both of these items ourselves (extras have always been included in the price we've paid for other holiday cottages). The cleanliness left a lot to be desired e.g..there was a thick layer of dust on the boxed in pipework that ran along the back of the handbasin pedestal and a thick cobweb between the floor and the corner of the bath. It was obvious the bathroom floor hadn't been mopped!! I wouldn't pay the cleaner in buttons. We came to use the seive to find it broken and rusty. The duvet cover on one of the single beds had been torn in two places and has been badly sewn together again. I could go on but don't have the time to list everything. It is a shame because the cottage is nicely situated and has a good sized rear garden if you need one for your dog. If your dog is small it may escape under the double gates at the front of the property so you will need to keep your eye on it. If all the problems were corrected this could be a lovely holiday home as it is nicely situated and I would then consider holidaying there again.

Another fantastic relaxing break in this lovely cottage. This is our 8th stay and seems to get better every time. Explored the beautiful countryside more than ever this time and discovered walks and scenery we never knew existed. Ideal location for day trips to York, Leeds and Scarborough or gaze at the wonderful sights across the North York Moors. The cottage itself comes with everything you need, is cosy and clean and the garden is tranquil. Highly recommended whether you want a relaxing stress free break or a more active holiday.

Lovely bungalow in a good position for visiting moors and coast. Good quality furnishings and (a rarity) a comfortable bed! I would recommend this bungalow.

I was disappointed with Southview for a few reasons. The property had a damp smell and feel on arrival, and mildew patches around most of the windows and some ceilings, roller blinds. Overall the cottage was not clean enough. There was evidence of dog hair on carpets, a chopping board was actually growing mould when I went to use it (& the dishwasher did not clear it so it must have been there for some time), table cloth stained (appeared to be from previous use), old food on oven gloves, crumbs left in the fridge, piece of lettuce on a plate in the cupboard. There were other things too but I've made my point. The decor in the cottage was not to our taste, but that didn't matter. However, the abundance of ornaments etc around the house added to the overall uncleanliness as most were very dusty. As well as this, the furniture looks and feels dated and worn. Old is fine, but it mostly looked grubby and had a smell inside drawers. The main bedroom was a great size, very large cupboard for hanging clothes. Very strange to have a single shower cubicle in an alcove in the bedroom rather than part of the bathroom. It did cause us a problem in that when my older child wanted to use the shower, we had to vacate the bedroom to give him privacy. If you were here with other adults, it would be a definite issue. The shower itself was rubbish. Pressure very low (but pressure in the rest of the house fine) and it does not drain well so you finished your shower standing in a puddle. The second, twin bedroom is really not big enough for two beds. They are separated by a chest of drawers, but there is no hanging space, except a few hooks on the wall. We had to move one of the beds a little to be able to get the door opened, and it does not close completely without some force. The garden is probably the main attraction of this house. It is big and a great size for running children. On a note of safety though, be aware that there is barbed wire on the top of the fence surrounding the garden. Not ideal with children around!! The location of the property is great. We had sheep on one side and horses on the other. However, to the bottom you are approximately 100 yards away from the main road to Pickering from Kirkbymoorside and there is a not insignificant amount of road noise. It's not so loud that it bothered us, but you are definitely aware of it. Overall I don't feel this property should be a 4 star rating and at what we paid over the odds of other similar properties for the week we stayed in August, was overpriced given its condition. We didn't contact the owners/reps as most of the issues we had could not have been addressed during our stay, and it would have further invaded our holiday time. I do have photos if the agent would like to see them.
