Snowdrop Cottage is the quintessential chocolate box cottage, located at the edge of the New Forest National Park.

Snowdrop Cottage is the quintessential chocolate box cottage, even used as the inspiration for one of the range of ‘Lilliput Lane’ model cottages. Situated in a quiet cottage garden, frequented by many birds, this detached thatched holiday property is at the edge of the New Forest National Park. The area offers many beautiful walks and great cycling, and is famous for its free roaming ponies, donkeys and cattle. The small market town of Fordingbridge is close by, with its renowned stone arched bridge, plenty of shops, pubs, a café and riverside location to enjoy, as is the larger town of Ringwood, with it selection of individual shops, pubs and restaurants. Christchurch Harbour is a great area, less than 10 miles away. The coast, with beaches at Bournemouth and Poole, is within easy reach, as is the city of Salisbury with its medieval cathedral. There are many places of interest for families, including Marwell Zoological Park, the New Forest Otter and Owl Wildlife Park or a day out at Beaulieu Motor Museum. Further afield, but worth the trip, are Monkey World and the Tank Museum near Wool, and Southampton with its maritime history and West Quay shopping centre. Shop 3 miles and pub 1½ miles.

We had a lovely stay. The location is superb. Lots to do and nice and close to the forest. Excellent meal from the pub down the road.

Snowdrop cottage is ideally situated for exploring the New Forest and the south coast. The kitchen is well equipped and the Aga very easy to use once you get used to it. The living room is a really nice room with doors to the lovely garden. We had 6 people in our party and had 8 for dinner one evening. My personal view is that the cottage does not really accommodate 8 (it is difficult for 8 people to fit around the dining table comfortably as the chairs will not fit under the table properly). Similarly the 4th bedroom is very cramped with twin beds and 2 teenagers would not feel comfortable in such a small space. Having only 2 toilets meant there was often a queue for the bathroom in the morning especially as the downstairs en-suite did not have a shower. That said we had a really relaxing holiday and found the quietness and open country views a really welcome change from living in the town.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed our property overall, including its unique location and our garden, in which we take great pride. A variety of birds and wildlife visit the garden (we leave bird seed so that guests can continue to top up the bird feeders and attract many species throughout the year). We have considered your comments and have decided to amend the description to say 6 adults and two children, as arguably the 4th bedroom is compact with restricted head height on one side of the beds. With regard to your other points, we have always easily accommodated 8 around the dining table; there are 8 chairs that match the table. We have not had any other adverse feedback from our previous guests. The nature of our home is that it is made up of the main period structure, which has been sympathetically extended to one side in recent years, to allow for a much more spacious living room and master bedroom. Unfortunately, with the layout and age of the property (400 years), we are unable to accommodate any further bathrooms or WC’s, and we hope that we will continue to welcome guests old and new, to enjoy their stay at Snowdrop Cottage.

Snowdrop Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. The picture on the internet are nice but give it less credit than it deserves. The house is ideally located to explore Hampshire, Dorset and especially the New Forest. It was a nice surprise how well an AGA works. The only improvement we would like to see is a better heating system - during the October nights the cold crept into the house.
