Snowdrop Cottage is in an ideal location to access all areas of Great Yarmouth, Martham, Hemsby etc. The property was also clean when we arrived and access was arranged easily. Unfortunately we would not consider returning to the property at this time of year for the following two reasons: 1) the stairs - the stairs to the 2 bedrooms are extremely steep and small which was not indicated on the advert. My husband takes a size 8 in shoe and had to go down the stairs sideways to plant his whole foot on the steps. Also the steps were too steep for my children (aged 2 & 3) to go down in the usual fashion. My 3 year old had to bump down and my 2 year old had to be carried down as he nearly took a tumble when trying to get down the stairs with me holding him. 2) Heating - the property does not have central heating. Instead it had 4 electric heaters and a log fire in the living room. The property was stone cold when we arrived and despite having all of the heaters on the property would not heat up. We used up £10 on the electric meter on the 1st evening to keep the heaters on and my husband and I could still see our breath when sitting in the living room! We deliberately did not use any of the kitchen equipment or TV that evening as we didn't want the electric to cut out in the middle of the night and for our children to be freezing so the electric costs were purely to heat the house and light the living room. While a small supply of kindling had been supplied for the fire, we could not get the log to take hold of the fire and burn. It would be helpful if the owner could leave estimates of how much electric to pay for to operate appliances and heating as we do not have a pay for use electric meter at home. On review of the comments book at the property, all of the guests who stayed at the property in winter had the same complaint about the cost and ability to get the property in winter. No such comment was made by the summer guests so one can only assume that as there is a large conservatory to the back of the property, the property becomes a sun trap at that time of year. Overall, the heating (or lack thereof!) became quite a substantial issue which tainted our overall stay. If the issue of heating could be addressed by the owners, we would consider renting the property again when our children are older.
