Relax in the private hot tub on the patio whilst admiring the uninterrupted sea views, or wander narrow lanes leading to secluded beaches.

Views of the Atlantic Ocean

Glorious uninterrupted sea views from this breathtaking location, one of Hartland’s most stunning spots. Smuggler’s Retreat is a delightful, spacious, detached property, set amidst the owners’ 17th-century farm. Lovingly converted from a former barn, it retains plenty of character with beams, stone walls and feature floors, and is presented to a very good standard. The superb living area takes full advantage of the views, and the sunny patio is the ideal spot to relax and watch the waves and dine al fresco. The luxurious hot tub adds the finishing touches for a holiday to remember. The magnificent, rugged English Heritage coastline of Hartland and beyond runs across the farm in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering a perfect haven for walkers and bird watchers. Narrow lanes from the doorstep wind down to secluded sand and shingle beaches. Berry Beach is just a short walk. Children will love the pets corner on the farm, and the large play field is the perfect spot for them to let off steam. The famous sandy surfing beaches of Westward Ho! and Bude are an easy drive and for family fun, the Big Sheep and the Milky Way adventure parks are close by. There are numerous National Trust properties in the area, as well as the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Docton Mill. Clovelly with its quaint cobbled streets and picturesque harbour is a must. The village of Hartland is just 3 miles and has a good selection of village shops and pubs all serving good local produce. The historic port of Bideford with its lively market, Lundy Island ferry, array of shops and other amenities is just 15 miles. Golf, fishing, sailing, surfing and horse riding available locally. Shops and pubs 3 miles.

Lovely cottage, all mod cons and just a short walk to the coastal path. Would happily use again.

Would go again and hopefully soon. Great place to be for chilling out. Children will love the farm and games room. Make sure you get your food shop before going as the nearest supermarket is half hour drive. Having the hot tube after walking miles is a bonus :)

This cottage is just wonderful. Overlooking the sea and plenty to see in the area. Amazing from 0 to 99+ age :) It's an absolute haven. We went when the weather was not at its best. But still managed to get to the seaside and we went for walks around the area...just beautiful!

I only put a 1 for local amenities because this AMAZING cottage is gloriously out of the way, quiet and relaxed. The shops are about 10 miles away so best to bring all the food with you (or have it delivered by Sainsburies). That way you never have to leave the lovely cottages and properly chill out. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous you can play skittles pool or table tennis. We were lucky enough to visit during lambing season so we’re welcomed in to watch lambs being born! Just a brilliant place - we will make it a yearly visit from now on. Great cottage, lovely owners and s you’d ever need (as long as you have enough Prosecco!)

Isolated, rural cottage with great views. The cottage was warm and cosy, it was comfortable with old world charm. The owners are lovely and make themselves known.

Great property all round: nice balance of traditional and modern fittings, obvious attention to detail in making sure everything was well designed, well maintained and cleaned. One double and two twins, so would suit a family. Best feature is the excellent sea view from the main living space and terrace. The house is, of course, more remote than some: the last few miles of the journey involve some country lanes, and there are no amenities in easy walking distance. However, there's plenty to see and do within a few miles' drive, and some good walks from the house itself, including the coast path up to Hartland Point or down to Hartland Quay, featuring some amazing views. We didn't have the best weather, but the house is cosy in the rain.
