Whitecraggs is a truly magnificent setting amidst 3.5 acres of landscaped grounds designed by the famous Kew Plant Hunter, William Purdon, with mature specimens of rare trees and alpine plants, these three holiday apartments form part of Whitecraggs, a converted country house. On two levels, Black Combe Apartment (ref W41226) provides spacious accommodation with a romantic four poster bedroom. Skiddaw Apartment (ref W41227) provides cosy accommodation on the ground floor looking out over the gardens to Lake Windermere, whilst Scafell Apartment (ref W41228) is a delightful first floor apartment. At the northern tip of the lake, centrally placed for the Lake District National Park, there is abundant walking, fell climbing in the nearby Langdales, water sports or simply wandering around charming Ambleside, which dates back to Roman times. From here you can take the steamer to explore villages on Windermere’s shores, as well as Grizedale forest. Shop, pub and restaurant 0.75 miles.

    On arrival the first impression when stepping inside the apartment was of damp and mustiness. A dehumidifier was running in the bedroom-not a good sign. It was obvious that the property and grounds had seen better days but I fail to see how it could claim to be a Luxury Apartment in its present condition.

    This property is part of an outstanding building in an historically important garden. The important garden has now been overrun by native plants because of neglect in a 30-40 year period. The current owner has taken on a massive task renovating the house and garden. He has invested heavily in expensive furniture which is presumably the justification for describing the accommodation as luxury apartments. However, the overall condition of the building is that the renovation of the rooms themselves does not meet the same standards. The walls are poorly decorated and our ground floor room felt damp. Low overall rating because of this. Equipment was good but comfort poor because of damp feeling: hence midway score overall. Location was excellent except the owner expected new arrivals to approach the site through a narrow twisting drive, when there is a much safer and easier approach to a larger parking space at the back of the building. Hence 8 overall. Cleanliness was average. Value for money poor because the property did not meet a luxury apartment claim.
