Description

A cosy family property with sea views, ideal for exploring the borders with Berwick-on-Tweed and Northumberland within easy reach.

Nestling on the seashore in the little known fishing village of Burnmouth, this former fisherman’s semi-detached holiday cottage is full of charm and character, and all the windows face the sea. With open stone work, original coomed beamed ceilings and a multi-fuel stove, this cottage is decorated and furnished to a very good standard, ensuring a warm and welcoming stay at any time of the year. All the rooms have views out to sea, with Velux windows in each of the bedrooms. This is a truly get away from it all location, where crab and lobster boats can be seen sailing from the small harbour. Enjoy beachcombing and sea fishing and relaxing at the harbourside. There is a clifftop walk taking in spectacular views on the way to the bustling fishing port of Eyemouth. Burnmouth lies close to the many attractions this beautiful area has to offer; visit Berwick-upon-Tweed and Holy Island with Lindisfarne Castle on this glorious coastline. Further inland there are the historical border towns of Jedburgh, Kelso and Coldstream under the Cheviot Hills all well worth a visit. There is a local pub on the outskirts of the village serving food, and shopping for everyday needs can be done in Eyemouth or Berwick-upon-Tweed. Access by single track road. Sandy beach 2 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 550 yards.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room/kitchen. Utility room. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double, 1 twin both with Velux. Shower room with bidet and toilet.

This location is perfect, the reason I have put 5 for local amenities is because there isn't any but for us that was great. We choose a cottage as far away as possible from pubs and shops. We would rather drive to them but can understand it is not what a lot of people would want. We put 8 for comfort because we don't like leather sofas, I spent all week trying to stop slipping about, again some people would call that a plus. It was clean, there is everything you could want , except a blind for the bathroom. Although it faces the sea it would feel more comfortable, we put a towel up to it. The reason we would not go back there is because we don't like to be close to the owners, we feel as if we are been watched. You don't know where the owners live until you get the directions etc. by then is to late to change.

The holiday was superb even the cold wind was no deterrent. This a lovely part of the world and well worth a visit. Our hosts, Mr and Mrs Aitchison could not have been better, welcoming, informative and friendly. We hope to return soon.
