Cumbrian Cottages

The Cumbrian Regional Specialist - Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Cumbria better!

Description

Traditional cottage retreat right on the beach at Silverdale enjoying fine views across the sea to the Lakeland Fells beyond.

Beach side cottages always prove a popular choice with our guests in the south Lakes so when we had the opportunity to market a seaside retreat in Silverdale, we thought well, why not? Although not strictly Cumbria, this delightful seaside village is only a few miles from Kendal and a mere 20 miles from Kirkby Lonsdale making it an ideal base for exploring no less than three counties in one trip. An area of outstanding natural beauty, nature lovers will revel in the flora and fauna of the area as well as some excellent walking, a fabulous beach and wonderful views of the Lakeland Fells and Morecambe Bay.
The cottage is very traditional, the open fire ideal for gathering around on cooler evenings. The rooms to the front of the house have panoramic sea views and being so very close to the beach, you can watch the younger ones from the front porch. So, bring the kids, bring your walking boots and bring the dog!

I was a previous holiday cottage owner (you were agents for me , Ashmeadow , Arnside and other cottages for 17 years) We retired a couple of years ago and sold up but miss not having a property in the area. I've known Silverdale all my life and even camped there as a youth. I used to look at these Shore cottages and think what a wonderful location ,smack on the rocky beach. We enjoyed our stay ,with the pub/ restaurant, (The Silverdale Hotel) 200yds away , with good food ,(now dog friendly) and the village ,unspoilt by progress! There are most facilities available with a good Co-oP ,butchers ,post office another pub/restaurant (the Royal), recently refurbished ,(not dog friendly) and an Indian restaurant (Cinnamon) which we tried and enjoyed. Monday nights line dancing in the village hall! The property is clean & well appointed for an old terraced cottage, the views are spectacular as you are only about 30' from the water at high tide. Obviously, being so close to the estuary you get the full force of the inclement weather, as we experienced on the Wed 11 Oct with a 14 hr rainstorm causing much flooding in the Lake District. Unfortunately, the seal around the lounge window couldn't cope with the driving rain and we had to mop up in the bay window ,putting out trays and clothes to catch the ingress of water. I contacted the owner to advise him accordingly. I didn't give the top mark for equipment as there isn't a dishwasher which I think most holidaymakers now expect and we that always ensured we had in our cottages. There is a lovely new curved screen tv which is very sophisticated and links to the free Wi-Fi (brilliant!), the only problem we had was getting the tv to switch on? There were 3 remote controllers , we discovered the 'normal' Samsung' control didn't work (possibly battery?) the second mini Samsung controller, which was very sophisticated without numbers etc and took some learning to operate. It would have helped enormously if there were instructions provided! The third controller was for the DVD ,but this also didn't work, so ,had to be manually operated on the unit? Again no instructions? The rear yard looked a bit drab and unloved and could probably do with a make over. There is a good size dining room for 6 people and a selection of books and games available. I think if it was my property I would install an extractor fan in the large bathroom , there was an air vent over the shower but to reduce the moisture levels etc a fan is needed. Also there wasn't a coat hook in the bathroom which meant you had to leave your clothes on the floor? I have a larger car and it can be difficult to park leaving enough space for others to pass. Overall, we enjoyed our stay (and our dog) and I would recommend the cottage to others. A couple of points regarding the joining information provide, this needs updating i.e an Italian restaurant is mentioned in the village , I think this closed about 7 years ago and is now the Indian restaurant? Also. a bench is mentioned at the front of the property , this no longer exists?

Lovely location, comfortable rooms and well equipped kitchen. Locals friendly and local pubs really nice. We would definitely recommend this, the shore was great for the children to explore and we were close to local road links to travel widely around Cumbria and Lancashire. Great holiday in a lovely cottage, we would book again without hesitation.

An extremely comfortable cottage with magnificent views across Morecambe Bay. Good food at the Royal and the Silverdale Hotel. Co-Operative within easy walking distance and a regular bus service. Highly recommended.

What a fabulous location! watching the sunsets across the bay was amazing & the kids loved playing on the beach (it does get very muddy!). We searched for fossils in the limestone and explored footpaths and woodlands. Lots of outdoor things to do & when it rained we went swimming at Holgates; we loved nearby Leighton Moss, met some friendly people & didn't want to come home. The cottage is basic but comfortable and warm, the domestics are a bit fiddly (bins, recycling, parking, etc.) & the kitchen could do with a bit of a scrub but we will be booking for another visit.

The location is lovely, but lots of locals appear on a sunny day so don't expect to have the beach to yourself. Very cosy cottage with amazing view. Double bed a bit on the small side. Nasty neighbour at the end of the block who shouted at us a couple of times, but overall a really lovely place for a short break.

Our second time at this cottage, wonderful location with fantastic views. Cottage is well equipped. With every thing we needed. Open fire was a bonus. Silver dale hotel just 5 mins walk away. Now offers some fantastic food at reasonable prices. Beer good to for those who like real ale. Will defiantly return at a latter date.

a wonderful break in a tranquil and interesting area. Even in the first full week of January we were warm and comfortable. The Silverdale Hotel nearby provided excellent facilities for food and drinks. The only downside was that we felt that the matresses on the beds were more than ready for changing. My score for comfort would then have been a 10.
