Shippen Cottage is a lovely place to stay. The owners have clearly given a lot of thought and attention to detail to make it a real home from home. You can imagine living there, rather than it being "just" a holiday cottage. Of course, if you don't like the idea of driving for 3 miles along a single track lane (with the possibility of having to reverse for on-coming farm vehicles) then the location may not be for you. But for us this all added to the charm and the feeling of "getting away from it all". This house is highly recommended and definitely a place for a return visit.

Everything great. Although not a problem to us, Internet connectivity was slow due to the rural location.

Shippen Cottage makes up part of a courtyard of artisan studios (previously farm out buildings) and is the only holiday let, giving a pleasant secluded feel to the property. The house provides a very well thought out layout, with a well stocked kitchen, (including a welcome pack of essentials) The log burner is 'very efficient' requiring the occasional open window in the depths of January, to cool down!. The owners live in the farm house adjacent and are welcoming and friendly, getting the balance of 'approachability' and privacy spot on. We have stayed in the pet friendly barn conversion on two occasions, both times in winter, the track to the property can be challenging in ice, snow or heavy rain (the track becomes a stream). Okehampton is nearby with a good supply of shops (including a large Waitrose). The Moors and North Coast are easily accessible, and this cottage is a perfect base to discover Devon from.
