We had a lovely time at Shingle cottage, never stayed at Seascale before but perfect for us and the dogs. The cottage was larger than you think from the pictures, clean, comfortable well equipped kitchen, however maybe a gentle suggestion for a freezer would come in handy. A small issue with a nosy neighbour re the parking but once we got sorted it was ok and would not put us off returning. Lovely meal at the Calder Hall Hotel which was recommended by our owner, Ratty Arms at Ravenglass and the ice cream parlour was delicious. Overall a little gem in our beloved West Cumbria. Thank you x

Seascale is a very safe and friendly village where the locals make you feel welcome. The beach is amazing and sunsets are outstanding. There is also a train line for easy access to Whitehaven and beyond. The car park is a short walk and free to use. The local ice cream parlor is a must during your stay. There is limited shops; which meant for us, we went browsing at Whitehaven. Shingle cottage is a Victorian terrace with lovely views to the front of the sea and to the mountains at the rear. The decor is traditional, clean and tidy and well equipped. If you are looking for a holiday with a top of the range kitchen and ensuite , this is not for you. But, if you are looking for a cosy holiday home to enjoy sitting by the fire, relaxing and spending quality time together, you cannot go wrong. The only point to note is that the single room is very small and would not suit an elderly person as it is extremely narrow about 3 foot wide, but the views and cozy feeling are ideal for a child. All in all ,we cannot wait to go back.

The stairs were very steep which was not mentioned in the description. The oven only had one shelf - not good for an avid self caterer. Fridge only had small freezer compartment which would be very inconvenient for holidays longer than a few days

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments, we consider the stairs to be of average steepness with a half landing and certainly would not describe them as very steep. We will investigate getting an extra shelf for the oven. The freezer compartment in the Indesit fridge is, we consider, an average size for a fridge with a freezer compartment.

Shingle Cottage is in a good location in Seascale. It is easy to cross the road to get to the beach which is dog friendly. There are 2 separate rooms downstairs and a kitchen which is not clear in the photos. Back dining room is dark but it is nice to sit in the back conservatory which is light. Front room is good with electric 'real fire' and can give exceptional views of sunset. Steps in garden were hard to get down when wet as brushing against hedge. Garden big enough to play with dog. Front double bedroom is large with superb views of beach. Very clean. Neighbour was polite.

Hard to fault this cottage, sea view at the front, views over Lake District at the back. Beach across the road brilliant for us with two dogs. The quieter, and in my opinion the prettier, western Lake District on your doorstep. No tourists in Seascale, which we like, but the downside was the fish n chip shop was closed! Great value for money as it sleeps six which I didn't realise until after I'd booked it - there are only two of us!

Comfortable cottage, lots of space and well equipped (dishwasher and washing machine a real bonus on a walking holiday with 4 kids!). Great location for the coast and the countryside. Local shops very handy and well stocked. The ice cream parlour (a few doors down) was a firm favourite! A bit of a squeeze with 6 of us upstairs, but the extra space downstairs afforded by the conservatory, sitting room and dining room made up for it (and the extra toilet!) Outside space another real bonus - both the garden (for clothes drying) and the porch (for storing boots etc). Enjoyed a lovely break here in August 2017, would definitely come back again.

Good cottage in a great location. But the accommodation is stated as sleeping 6. At best it's 4 adults and a child.

The only downside really is the stellafield nucleair plant and their pullution... besides that it is all beautiful!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your positive comments and glad you enjoyed your stay, with regard to pollution from the Sellafield Nuclear site, it is very strictly monitored by a number of national and international organisations including The Environment Agency and the International Nuclear Inspectorate. Their reports indicate there is very little pollution and the site is not visible from Shingle Cottage.
