This is a great place to stay for access to the local hills and countryside. The property is over 300 years old and is therefore a bit rambling and has a few issues with maintainance.

I booked this house for my son's 30th birthday. I'd read the reviews and some were critical of the musty smell and peeling wallpaper. All I can say is that they must have been reviewing a different property. It was ideal for our party of 10, with each bedroom having en suite facilities. The house was full of character, hundreds of years old and with everything in keeping with a period house. The owner met us and was so informative and helpful. The surrounding area was lovely with great walks. We ate in the town, Alston, after a 5 hour walk and a lovely pub owner drove some of us back to the house to pick up a car to pick the rest of us up. The town is 3 and a half miles from the house so factor in the walk back if not driving. We would look at booking again and think we found a little gem. Margaret
