Description

Windermere is only a short drive from this second floor apartment with Juliet balcony, Bowness with lake cruises nearby.

Only a 6 mile drive from Lake Windermere, Hazelwood Court offers breathtaking country and coastal views from 5 spacious 2/3 bedroomed holiday apartments, carefully prepared and maintained by the on-site resident owners, on ground, first and second floor levels. This imposing late Victorian country house occupies an enviable, elevated 4 acres of conservation area, natural woodland, and terraced landscaped gardens, with seated outdoor view terrace and ample, level off road parking for over 20 cars.
All the apartment living rooms and most of the bedrooms offer amazing unspoilt views over the adjacent farmland, golf course and tidal estuary, to the rolling wooded uplands across Morecambe Bay, and to the distant Pennine Hills beyond. Visitors are regularly impressed by the size and quality of the building structure, the spacious apartments living space is enhanced by high corniced ceilings and large windows, with quality furnishings and decor, with an antique and period style which complements the contemporary kitchens and bathrooms with their creature comforts.
Resident proprietors are normally available to meet, greet and show guests around their accommodation, where a fruit bowl, flowers and a welcoming tea tray are provided. Their unobtrusive on-site presence is regularly appreciated if and when a prompt solution or local knowledge are required. Access to the property is a 15-minute drive from the M6, Junction 36, with delightful daily excursions into the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks made easy. Good train and bus service links are also available.
Within walking distance is the coastal town of Grange-over-Sands, a refreshingly friendly community of traditional shops, cafes, gardens, and park with regularly used bandstand and a traffic-free mile long curved promenade, which has retained its tasteful, low-key character since the mid Victorian railway arrival changed a sleepy fishing village into a genteel holiday resort. Not renowned for its nightlife and amusement arcades, Grange-over-Sands is still appreciated by those looking for quiet quality, with nearby Cartmel, the birthplace of sticky toffee puddings, providing popular summer time National Hunt race meetings, several gastro pubs and the nationally acclaimed L’Enclume restaurant amongst the historical cottages clustering around its magnificent 12th-century priory church.
Further afield, you will find a variety of things to see and do for people of all ages, interests and inclinations. The familiar Lake District villages of Coniston, Hawkshead, Grasmere, Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness are all easily reached by car. Nearby stately homes and gardens at Sizergh, Levens, Holker and Blackwell are well worth visiting, with many more a little further away. The whole area offers the unique artist and cultural heritage of Wordsworth, Coleridge, Southey, Ruskin, Ransome, Romney, Potter, Wainwright and so many others who chose to make their home in this lakes and mountain concentration of outstanding natural beauty. Visit their homes as well as the countless museums, galleries, studios, craft centres, aquaria, agricultural shows, village sports and festivals which compete for your interest and attention. The more active can find countless opportunities for such activities as walking, climbing, cycling, golfing, horse riding, fishing, water sports, with nature reserves, wildlife centres, leisurely lake cruising and a superb variety of food and drink establishments, providing relaxing alternatives for the less energetic visitor throughout the area. Whatever preferences your holiday party may reveal during their stay here, it is difficult to imagine anyone being disappointed with the huge range of choices available. It really is true to say that in Cumbria, there is something for everyone. Shops, pubs and restaurants 1 mile.

The decor was outdated, laundry utilities being outside the apartment was of great inconvenience. TV was from the 1990's. Not enough cooking utensils (there was no frying pan!) To be told to conserve energy by not switching lights on was a bit of a cheek. Did not get the feeling of being welcomed. Being told to clean up the apartment so the next lot of guests can come in..its not my problem I come to have a holiday and not clean up for the next lot of guests to come in. That is not to say we don't tidy up. We have been staying in holiday cottages and apartments for years this is the first time we felt so on edge. Finally the views were beautiful.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry you consider the decor to be outdated. The website page covering our Sheraton Apartment includes ten recent untouched internal photos which, when enlarged, clearly show the nature and style of its decor and furnishings (including the T.V.). The details on the website state ‘Shared (i.e. not a specific part of that apartment) laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier’. Regarding cooking facilities, an 11.5 inch diameter frying pan was available in a kitchen cupboard, along with three lidded and one un-lidded saucepans, as well as a perfectly adequate quantity of food preparation equipment such as mixing bowls, sharp and serrated knives, colander, grater, scissors, tongs, sieve, corkscrew, tin opener, shopping boards, measuring jug, etc. Again, as we provide in all our apartments a four-ring gas hob, standard sized electric oven / grill, electric slow cooker, microwave oven, toaster, cafetiere, ground coffee maker and toaster; we feel the kitchen is well equipped. Interestingly, earlier reviews have specifically praised our equipment provision standards. On arrival you were told we live on site and that you should ring our apartment door bell to let us know of any problems. It is a shame you did not raise these concerns during your stay, as we would have done our best to resolve them immediately. As a gesture towards environmental conservation, our apartment light switches bear a printed reminder asking our visitors to extinguish unused lighting. This matter is normally understood and accepted, as are our politely expressed requests that, prior to departure, all rubbish and recyclables are taken to the containers outside, that any moved items of furniture are returned to their original positions, that all cutlery, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils are returned to their allotted cupboards and drawers in a clean condition, and that any major spillages are attended to. These requests are simply made in accordance with the meaning of the Cottages 4 You conditions of hire, Section 14 which state that guests must leave the property as they find it. Given your stated experience with self-catering accommodation, I would have thought that you would be aware that any form of personal arrival greeting is by no means always assured at other holiday properties. I do hope that this response clarifies matters, and indicates our perspective of the issues you have raised.
