Scottish Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

The picturesque village of Plockton makes a delightful base for touring the area and gives easy access to the Isle of Skye.

These three adjoining holiday properties (refs SMMC, SMMD and UVO) are set in beautiful, landscaped grounds with spectacular views across the Sound of Sleat to Skye and are only 500 yards away from the shoreline and village of Balmacara. The properties are ideally placed for exploring some of the most dramatic scenery in the West Highlands and visitors can enjoy private fishing on hill lochs during their stay. Minutes away by car is the enigmatic Isle of Skye dominated by the Cuillins, Eilean Donan Castle, the pretty village of Plockton and the Five Sisters of Kintail. The breathtaking drive across the ‘Pass of the Cattle’ leads to the village of Applecross, recently featured in Monty Hall’s Great Escape on BBC television. Experience wildlife safaris such as marine life, sea/loch fishing, water sports and magnificent mountains for hill walking, climbing and biking. A network of National Trust paths, signposted from the grounds of Sgurr Mor, affords views of the surrounding area. Shop and pub 500 yards and excellent restaurants in and around Plockton.

The place is in desperate need of a refurbishment. The bathrooms are so old, one has to sit down in the bathtub to have a shower. The rooms are large but full of old and outdated furniture. The kitchen is large and well-equipped but the items had to be washed before use - they were not dirty but dusty. There was even a dead spider that got trapped in the egg holder. There was old food left in the fridge on purpose - in case we wanted to use it. I don't think anyone's interested in using a stranger's left vegetables. The lounge room has a stunning view overlooking the loch. The table is very nice and the flooring lovely. Note to the owner: Buy a new lounge. Please. It's dreadful, dusty and full of whatever. While you're at it, get a new television set. I was reminded of my childhood while my children were trying to depict what they were watching. For all of this we paid a remarkably high price. We won't be back.

Location was superb! Beautifull view on the lake. The accomodation is old and bathrooms were almost not usable. Waterleaks and no showers, Doors and windows could not be opened. Heating in livingroom was not Wirkung, even as tv and stereo. Too much money for what you get...

Good location for walking and sightseeing, all rooms are spacious, excellent views from the front. Comfortable beds. We would certainly return to this house. Most people staying would greatly appreciate if a proper shower were to be fitted in one or both bathrooms. On hot sunny days (which can be rare on the west coast) we did find the lounge and front bedroom became unbearably hot, this should be resolved once the balcony is repaired and the doors can be opened for ventilation.

Property needs a number of things fixed. e.g. hot tap in main bathroom difficult to turn off, update TV, 3rd bedroom beds too small, no cooker instructions, toasters not working properly, gas fire in lounge had empty cylinder, no wood for fireplace, no wardrobe in big window bedroom. Whole place needs a refresh. ;)

The view on the sea side is fantastic. Spacious house with 3 bedrooms. Unfortunately the house and particularly kitchen and the two bad rooms/WC where dirty.

Lovely cottage. The only downside is that the bathroom is a bit dated. There is no shower and the taps were difficult to turn on and off in the bath. This could be a problem for any elderly visitors. I feel that if the bathrooms were modernised and showers added, it would be a perfect cottage.

Excellent and charming property, modern but with class. Brilliant location in a beautiful place - ideal for the whole of Kintail, Lochalsh as well as Skye, Torridon and Applecross. Easy access to A87 but without the traffic roar of being straight on the road. Gorgeous views with Panoramic windows. Huge garden. Beautiful woodland walks right out the front door. Large and comfortable rooms, with comfy beds. Open fire. We loved our stay there, wish we could have stayed on another week ! The owner was fabulous and went the extra mile for any requests. One thing to be aware of is there are no shower facilities, only bathtubs in the property, but I think they are being upgraded soon.
