It has spectacular views from the bedrooms of the stunning Abbey, the harbour and out to sea. You can also take one of the many pleasure cruises that will take you out to sea for 1 hour which is a memorable experience. There are also many events going on all year round including Whitby’s own Regatta, Folk Week, music weekends and Goth weekends which offer something to please everyone. If you would like to travel further afield you can visit many pretty coastal resorts dotted along the coast from Whitby including Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Staithes which are all worth a day out. House is in a great location. a few niggles on the cleanliness, so not perfect, but OK. Main issue was that the top bedroom had no curtains. The blind didn't go up or down very easily, so the use of the window seat was lost and it didn't keep the early morning light out. the roof window again would have benefited from a good blind. A mirror and chest of drawers would be good in the top bedroom (blow drying hair using a shaving mirror balanced on the chair was interesting). The bed linen felt tired & dated. I would recon that spending £200 would make this cottage a 10 on the comfort level. The provision of 2 keys would be good as a couple of mornings we had to lock our 23 year old son in the house whilst we went for a stroll as there was no way of locking the door from the inside, so that the key could open it after we had gone out. Saying that we would use the cottage again as these niggles, were overcome by the location. Layout & fact that there is a toilet on each floor.

We stayed for 4 nights and were overjoyed with the cottage and location, once we had found it ! Well equipped and comfortable cottage and we liked it so much we have booked again. Parking was a bit of a problem but there was a car park nearby which we only had to pay for during the day.

Fantastic location in the centre but still private.. There were a few maintenance issues which didn't affect our stay but we have advised the agent. Property was very clean and tidy. A bit off putting to find the milk left for us was already open and out of date. Kitchen was well equipped and the dishwasher and washer/dryer a great bonus. More than 4 mugs would have been useful. We struggled terribly with the window coverings or lack of in the double room. The sky light had no covering at all, and the window blind totally ineffective at blocking the light. As we went at the end of June we were woken by the light about 4am. Previous reviewers have also mentioned this. It would have been helpful to know that much of the double bedroom had restricted ceiling height. The provision of parking permits was very useful and we always found a space.

We had a very happy stay in Seashells. The provision of parking scratchcards was very thoughtful. Great views across to the abbey from the upstairs windows. The kitchen taps need some attention, and both showers looked tired. Powershowers would help with the water flow. The lack of Wifi and poor TV channel choice might be a problem for some families. We would still recommend Seashells as a good holiday cottage.
