Relax on one of the balconies whilst drinking in the amazing sea views, stretching for miles along the South Devon coastline.

This beautiful holiday home has got to have one of the most stunning panoramic sea views in the whole of South Devon! Perched high on the cliffs above Slapton Sands, Seacliff Cottage is a three-storey detached house, built in the 1970s, with extensive sea facing balconies and large decked terraces looking directly out to sea and all along the coast with the fresh water lagoon, right over to Start Point Lighthouse. Slapton is a 3-mile, pebbly beach, a favourite with holiday makers in the summer, and fishermen in the winter, and of course, the location of the rehearsal site for the D-Day landings. It is also featured in the book ‘Adolphus Tips’ by Michael Morpurgo. Slapton Ley is a nature reserve where wonderful bird life can be seen, take a quiet walk with your binoculars and your camera and you will be thrilled at what you find.
Seacliff Cottage is a great house for a family or a group of friends, with a spacious living room on the top floor and huge windows and balconies. There is a spacious dining room on the first floor, again with the most terrific views and a second sitting room leading off one of the bedrooms. This is perfect location for a holiday at any time of the year, not just for summer but for fabulous spring, autumn and winter short breaks, a great get-away location for people of all ages. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Greeted with a mountin of loose rubbish in the drive when we arrived. Could not turn the heating on. Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Bathrooms need some attention/modernising. The pub listed as quarter mile down the road was closed and up for sale and had been for some time. As this was one of the big selling points for us that was vey disappointing and should be removed from the list of features. The overall cleanliness of the place was very poor, on the the first day we had to take a chicken bone off my son he had found on the floor. I would not recommend this property and certainly would not stop there again.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; In response to these comments, we immediately contacted the local council to find out why the waste had not been collected prior to the guests stay. The Trade Waste Department are investigating the issue as the bin should have been emptied on the Tuesday before your arrival. The drive is about 15m long, so the waste bin is a long distance from the house itself. The guests could have contacted the housekeeper during their stay as she is on call 24/7. We have also checked the central heating system following the comments and can confirm that it is indeed working properly. If they were unable to understand how to turn it on during their stay, they should have contacted our housekeeper who would have shown them how to do it. In fact, we urge all guests to report any issues during their stay and not after leaving, so that they can be resolved during the holiday. We were unaware that the pub has closed and have contacted Cottages.com to amend their property description. We are fortunate to have a shop/post office and an excellent restaurant, The Laughing Monk within walking distance and the Start Bay Inn which serves the best fish and chips in Torcross. We have not received any other comments about the beds. Each mattress is supplemented with a mattress topper and a protector and we purchased new duvets and ben linen for every bed at the start of the season. In response to the comments regarding cleanliness, we have forwarded them onto the cleaner. We have now decided to change our housekeeper to maintain high standards. Unfortunately upon departure the property had been found to have been left in an unacceptable condition which therefore required extra cleaning. Also in order to carry out the remedial work necessary before our property is ready for our next guest we have had to close Sea Cliff Cottage for visits and organise the repair work.

Lovely spacious house with breath taking views. Not dog or child friendly due to no garden or fencing around property and balustrade broken and flimsy. Kitchen and bathrooms let property down being far too small and for a family of eight there is no cupboard space for groceries. Bathroom downstairs was blocked and would not drain. We feel the cleaner would have known this when they had cleaned. A welcome package would be a nice touch eg tea and coffee facilities on arrival like we have received in all other rented properties. Photographs are quite deceiving as the property is looking tired and not quite up to modern day standards for the price we paid. Location gives you a great base for easy access to all of lovely Devon. Fabulous clean shingle beaches within a short but steep walk. Regatta week is a must!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We were glad that you enjoyed your visit to Seacliff cottage and agree that the Dartmouth Regatta week ‘is a must’. Seacliff cottage is located on the top of a cliff above start bay and has 3 levels of balconies that have uninterrupted views of the regatta sailing competitions. There is a small well planted shrub garden with a large driveway allowing parking for at least 6 cars. There are enclosed balcony areas which are dog and child friendly. Seacliff cottage is inspected before and after each visit and any repairs are made immediately before our next guests arrive. The balustrade was not broken before your visit. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a supplementary utility room with extra storage space and a second fridge if required. We have an excellent house keeper (Jane) who is on call 24/7 and if she had been informed of the issue of the slow draining bath she would have resolved it immediately. Indeed, the blocked drain was noted when you left and inappropriate sanitary material was removed from our drain before our next guest arrived. The photographs are most certainly not deceiving! They were taken in May 2017 before the summer season. We have taken a great deal of time, effort and money to make sure our visitors have enjoyable holidays and your comments are not justified. We carry out maintenance and improvements updates to our property before and after each summer season – we even have a Bang and Olufsen stereo! We have excellent comments in our visitors book. The Dartmouth Regatta week is peak season and we think that about £30 pppn for a stay in our beautiful cottage with spectacular views and location is excellent value for the money you paid.

Unfortunately it could be lovely but the cottage was not clean when we arrived. There was food wrapping, odd socks, dust and cobwebs under the beds, dirty chopping board in kitchen and food waste under the bin. The caretaker said they were also surprised at how dirty the last guests had left it and in Hindsight should have delayed our arrival which seemed very strange. The kitchen is also extremely small for 8 people

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We were very surprised by these comments. We have always had excellent cleanliness ratings from our previous guests. Our house keeper, on this occasion, did assign a different cleaner due to illness of the regular cleaner. I also note that as soon as the issue was raised by you, an immediate and urgent re-clean was offered to him but was declined. Please note that our regular cleaner has now been reassigned. The kitchen is a galley kitchen but is well equipped as per photographs on the web site. There is an additional utility room with washing machine and extra fridge. The house is optimised to make the most of the spectacular sea views and so the dining room, next to the kitchen, is very large with floor to ceiling windows/doors. We have installed restaurant style double swing doors in the adjacent dining room to facilitate carrying food from the kitchen to be plated out at the dinning room table. Most guest think our Cottage is “lovely” and have left fantastic reviews in our guest book with promises to return.

Lovely views but the main road was very busy and difficult to negotiate safely with dogs and children which meant that we had to pay out for parking for 2 cars every day so we could use the beach.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: There is a signposted foot path to the beach which you could have entered just past the neighbouring cottage in the lay by. This is away from any traffic and joins the South Hams Coast path and has great views. It takes less than 10 minutes to reach the beach.

A superb location with spectacular views. Sweet little village with wonderful restaurant. Easy access to all South Devon has to offer. Our only very minor negative is size of kitchen - really one person can cook at a time . And a really decent shower would be a great addition. Otherwise . Loved our week away and came back well rested .

A group of us stayed there on the 29th of April was a lovely cosy cottage with outstanding views we all loved it and would return again. The only down side was the very small kitchen for the size house and catering for 8 wasn't easy. Also the cooker wasn't working.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your review. The kitchen is compact but well equipped and there is a second utility room downstairs. We were surprised to hear about the cooker. It is checked before and after each visit by our wonderful housekeeper. If you had asked her, during your stay she would have been glad to show you how to use it. Also there is a folder of instruction manuals for the appliances. The cooker was probably set on automatic mode. Our subsequent guests reported no issues with the cooker. We are happy that you wish to return to Seacliff Cottage and suggest a visit during the Dartmouth Regatta Week when you can enjoy the best grandstand view of the sailing competitions in Start Bay. Many thanks for your 10/10 rating.
