Sea pearl is in a perfect location with everything you need right on the doorstep. Good pub, beach and local stores. The cottage could and should be so much better. So many things let it down. The garden is an overgrown disaster and is not suitable for use in the darker months of the year in fact it's dangerous. There is no outdoor lighting that works. Fortunately we had a torch so we managed to clean up after our little dog. Would not recommend a large dog in the garden. The beds are an utter disgrace. For some reason three of the single beds had mattress toppers underneath the main mattress. There is no double bed. Instead it is two single beds pushed together with mattresses of a different height. The central heating is a plus which is a good job because the gas fire turns itself off after it's been on for ten minutes. Surface areas, floors, bathrooms, fridge and cooker were all clean on our arrival and milk in the fridge was welcome for a cup of tea on arrival. The little garden at the front is overgrown and is in need of a light so you can see where you are walking. There is one two seat sofa and a chair the other seating is kind of wooden bench, very uncomfortable. Too many cushions and throws. Didn't use the upstairs tardis shower. Couldn't be bothered after reading all the cleaning orders. Which I found funny seeing as how there was no cleaning fluid in the place. Many more little issues need addressing and should be sorted to give this cottage a chance to shine in slovenly friendly area.

    Response from: Administrator

Response on behalf of the Owner; We discovered that there were faults with both the boiler and the gas fire. The boiler has now been replaced and the gas fire has been successfully repaired. Both were what I would call 'tricky faults' because they only showed up in certain circumstances. There is no problem with the twin / link bed. The base and mattress set are a matching pair of identical height. But I would totally agree that the garden is not suitable for a large dog. Fortunately, this really does not matter as the cottage is so close to the beach and cliff top that the location is ideal for exercising dog of all sizes. It isn't even necessary to cross a through road to get there from either the front or back door. And I am happy to say that the small garden has now had its seasonal winter clean up and is looking beautiful, with many spring flowers in bloom. The apple tree is just coming into leaf - delightful.

Pakefield's Sea Pearl cottage is in an ideal spot for dog walkers. There is a long stretch of shingle / sand beach which is dog friendly year round and it is literally 2 minutes walk from the back gate which was great for our Springer Spaniel who had a great time. The cottage is clean and confortable and our only critisim was that the cold tap in the upstairs showerroom didn't work and we couldn't seem to connect to the Wifi as the password provided worked but there was no network code given). Within 2 minutes of the back gate we found a very welcoming and dog friendly pub (the Oddfellows Inn) which serves good meals at reasonable prices and will serve you in the bar area of you have your dog with you (they have a small restaurant section otherwise). 5 - 10 minutes walk further along is a much sandier beach at the Lowestoft end. That part is great for children building sand castles and paddling etc. (dogs can't go on that section during the main summer season). It's worth knowing that you can rent a beach hut by the day or week for a reasonable tariff - it was £25.00 pw or £10.00 per day in Sept when we were there which I thought would be great for anyone with kids especially as you could keep all your beach 'stuff' in the hut rather than lugging it back and forth each day. We wish we'd known this before we went as we only found out 2 days before we were due to come home. There are a few very near to the dog friendly part of the beach but mostly they are located along the stretch of sandy beach where dogs are not allowed. All in all a typical English seaside resort - no frills - but when the sun is out it's lovely.
