We stayed for a week at this property with our three children. The property is a fantastic location for many attractions in Norfolk. There are two children's play areas very close to the house and there is a partial view of the sea from two of the bedrooms which was very pretty. The downside to this property was the steep stairs. My husband fell down the whole flight of stairs and badly hurt himself. Other than that we had a good week and were very comfortable.

Sea Pearl is a lovely cottage, beautiful calm feeling and very clean and well-equipped. The undeveloped beach is just two minutes away as well as the main Lowestoft beach just a mile walk for a sandier experience: the local beach is a treat in its wildness though. The cottage has a charming garden with plenty of spots to sit and eat or contemplate. Oddfellows pub is an obvious hub of the local community and does good food just 2 mins behind the cottage and there is a local Co-op in walking distance too. We thoroughly enjoyed being on and off the beach and very low key - a wind break is probably a good idea but the sea was very calm some days as well and not entirely freezing!

I’ll start my review by answering the question “would you return to Sea Pearl”. The answer is definitely "Yes". Although the property is a little dated it has a great "vibe", it feels like the sort of place one visited as a kid, like your favourite Auntie’s place by the sea, for example. Judging by the decor and books the owner clearly enjoys travel and religious philosophy. We only stayed a long weekend (3 nights) and were also very lucky because the weather was marvellous so we could enjoy the lovely (albeit very small) Italianate garden and the beach is only a couple of minutes walk from the rear of the property. However, be aware that parking is on the road outside the property and it’s a very narrow cul-de-sac. There’s also a Co-op Local 5 minutes away which is useful if you forgot or need something, and there is a children’s play area and a great little pub called Oddfellows to the rear of the property as one approaches the beach. The beach however is not the best kept area, lots of grass and pebbles, so no good for sun bathing or playing ball games, for example. However, a half an hour walk towards Lowestoft the beach is in far better condition. I’d like to give some well-intended feedback though: 1). Please buy a new DVD player. We had kids with us and took a couple of Harry Potter DVD’s. However, the DVD player made such a loud vibrating noise it was difficult to hear the actual DVD. We managed to position it at a funny angle using the cork table mats to lessen the noise. One can buy a decent DVD player these days for about £30 so it would be a good investment and a huge benefit for people with kids. 2). The property would benefit from a little modernisation, in particular the bathrooms. 3). Although part of its charm, the property is a little cluttered, hence my comment about it reminding me of visiting my favourite auntie’s house with lots of knick knacks and possibly too many chairs in the sitting room area. 4). Thank you, there was loo roll, kitchen towel, milk, coffee, tea bags and sugar – we took all of those things just in case so that was a pleasant surprise. However, it would have been really helpful if there has been some cling film and silver foil with the pots and pans - only a little thing but it would have helped when cooking and storing things in the fridge. Overall though we really liked the place, thought it was good value and would return for another long weekend.

Sea pearl is in a perfect location with everything you need right on the doorstep. Good pub, beach and local stores. The cottage could and should be so much better. So many things let it down. The garden is an overgrown disaster and is not suitable for use in the darker months of the year in fact it's dangerous. There is no outdoor lighting that works. Fortunately we had a torch so we managed to clean up after our little dog. Would not recommend a large dog in the garden. The beds are an utter disgrace. For some reason three of the single beds had mattress toppers underneath the main mattress. There is no double bed. Instead it is two single beds pushed together with mattresses of a different height. The central heating is a plus which is a good job because the gas fire turns itself off after it's been on for ten minutes. Surface areas, floors, bathrooms, fridge and cooker were all clean on our arrival and milk in the fridge was welcome for a cup of tea on arrival. The little garden at the front is overgrown and is in need of a light so you can see where you are walking. There is one two seat sofa and a chair the other seating is kind of wooden bench, very uncomfortable. Too many cushions and throws. Didn't use the upstairs tardis shower. Couldn't be bothered after reading all the cleaning orders. Which I found funny seeing as how there was no cleaning fluid in the place. Many more little issues need addressing and should be sorted to give this cottage a chance to shine in slovenly friendly area.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We discovered that there were faults with both the boiler and the gas fire. The boiler has now been replaced and the gas fire has been successfully repaired. Both were what I would call 'tricky faults' because they only showed up in certain circumstances. There is no problem with the twin / link bed. The base and mattress set are a matching pair of identical height. But I would totally agree that the garden is not suitable for a large dog. Fortunately, this really does not matter as the cottage is so close to the beach and cliff top that the location is ideal for exercising dog of all sizes. It isn't even necessary to cross a through road to get there from either the front or back door. And I am happy to say that the small garden has now had its seasonal winter clean up and is looking beautiful, with many spring flowers in bloom. The apple tree is just coming into leaf - delightful.
