This cottage is beautiful and the photos don't do it justice. It felt like home from the moment we arrived. The views are stunning and the picnic bench in the garden is a lively vantage point. The decor is homely yet stylish, the log burning a real treat for cool nights, beds comfy, kitchen well kitted out, the dining area great for meals together, the garden ideal for the children to run about in, especially given the cottage has its own gate so they can't wonder out. I would 100% recommend staying here. We had truly awful weather all week (last week in May 2016) and the cottage offered a perfect refuge from the wind and rain. The play area shared with the other cottages is a big plus if you have children with a range of new looking equipment. There is a reception and play room with a pool table and DVDs to borrow as well as fishing nets etc. The other cottages looked fabulous on the complex. There is A cliff top path to Scarborough but I did feel nervous with two small children, as it is a shear drop downwards, with the path close to the edge and evidence of previous small collapses of soil. Personally I didn't like the town of Scarborough, it is very run down but scalby lodge is in a lovely area away from the main drag. The cottage was on the pricey side but you know what, it was worth it!

Beautiful accommodation. But don't expect the basket of welcoming goodies when you get there - I was told when I got there this was an artists impression! Good job the cottages weren't also an artists impression! I said I hadn't brought wine or jam and had been really looking forward to a glass of wine when I got there. How long are you staying, she asked. I was fortunately able to say the superior amount of time of one week and for this she said I could have wine. I enquired about the jam. She asked which cottage we were in, which was Lodge Cottage, sleeps 4. No jam, she said - this is only for people in a sleep 6. Also beware some of the kitchen equipment. The electric stove tops are very uncontrollable - Gas would have been so much better. And maybe take your own sharp knife and knife sharpener. No sharpener and both the knives were rubbish. Oh, and the sofa and arm chairs are so uncomfortable they give you a sore behind like old cinema seats. And the duvet was a right lumpy old thing with filling in some parts and none in others. This is in contrast to everything else which was top quality and a total pleasure.

A very nice cottage but in need of some TLC as the equipment within is dated and showing its age especially the showers. overall a good place to stay!
