Description

After a day spent walking along the Cleveland Way, return to this cottage and curl up in front of the wood-burning stove.

Owned by Her Majesty the Queen, in Right of Her Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

All the cottages are finished with fixtures and fittings of the very highest standard and have open-plan dining. Some have en-suite bedrooms. They offer an ideal location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

Local attractions:

  • Enjoy stunning walks along the Cleveland Way
  • Visit the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Bird Santuary - a paradise for bird spotters
  • Take in a show at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre - Europe’s largest open-air theatre which has played host to world-famous acts such as Elton John and Katherine Jenkins
  • Learn more about the towns history at its 12th-century castle
  • Walk along Scarborough’s two beautiful beaches at North and South Bay
  • Visit the town’s eclectic mix of shops, dine in its wide choice of restaurants or take in an Alan Ayckbourn play at the theatre
  • Meander along Scarborough’s esplande which has been featured in hit television shows The Royals and Heartbeat

Cottage was very nicely done but was 'tired' so cannot give it a too high rating. Furniture had definitely seen better days and a few problems in the kitchen. Location was great especially for walkers and there was easy access to the forestry and moors.

A lovely place to stay. Just a few quibbles that prevent this from being 9 or 10 out of 10. The cot bed and highchair were not good quality and no mattress or bedding for the cot bed was provided - we weren't forewarned or would have brought our own. Some of the other kitchen utilities were also not the best quality. The welcome was lukewarm and functional rather than enthusiastic, and management were also difficult to locate on occasion. There were painters on site who came and asked if they could paint our doors (very politely) but I think the place wasn't so busy that they couldn't have been told by management to do it when the cottage was empty. However, the cottage was pretty and warm, with a really great play area and good location from which to base ourselves. The information pack was helpful and we had a restful break. Lovely walks along the coast on the doorstep.
