Owned by Her Majesty the Queen, in Right of Her Duchy of Lancaster, Scalby Lodge is a collection of fifteen beautiful cottages situated in an idyllic clifftop setting near the elegant seaside town of Scarborough.

All the cottages are finished with fixtures and fittings of the very highest standard and have open-plan dining. Some have en-suite bedrooms. They offer an ideal location from which to explore both the North York Moors National Park and the glorious Heritage Coast of Yorkshire.

Local attractions:

  • Enjoy stunning walks along the Cleveland Way

  • Take in a show at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre - Europe’s largest open-air theatre which has played host to world-famous acts such as Elton John and Katherine Jenkins
  • Learn more about the towns history at its 12th-century castle

We had wonderful sea views with a spacious and comfortable lounge. One of us had some mobility problems, so being all on one level with no steps or stairs was very important. Two of the bedrooms also had sea views. The double rooms were a little on the small side but ensuites in both these rooms was a real bonus. All in all, a lovely place for anyone wanting to relax in comfort.

We all found the accommodation to be very well equipped with all the necessaries, location was perfect with easy reach of beeches especially for the two dogs Bramble the Springer & Bella the Staffy .There are a number of cottages within the complex ours being Castle View 8 birth which had great views out to sea, only downside we wished the cottage had a hoover and basic cleaning products just so we could keep the place a little more like home especially with two sand covered dogs to contend with, sockets in the bedrooms were awkward to access (behind head boards) and we wished the fence around the back garden had some mesh to keep the dogs contained (open style wooden fence) but overall we loved the place and wouldn't hesitate to come back, highly recommended. The cottage was finished nicely and was a really pleasant place to be. The views out to the sea were really stunning and there were some lovely walks close by. I have given a lower score for the cleanliness, as there were dog hairs on the sofa and rug in the lounge. We also found some dog mess and a bone in the garden.

We had a very comfortable stay at Castle View in a lovely area. We had a couple of days with much wind and rain , so it was comforting to know that we could return to a cosy log fire. The only down side was that the cooker hob was very difficult to switch on at times.

Lovely lodge but not suitable for very young children being open plan and fire gourd not being secured in some way, this hasn't deterred us for rent booking the farm house next year my family love the place.

Fantastic cottage with wonderful views and ready access to all Scarboroughs' many attractions for families. Almost on the Cleveland Way with wonderful walking and bird watching from the cottage. Good play facilities on the complex and whole site beautifully maintained.
