This cottage as huge potential. Very light and spacious rooms, lovely and warm, and it's close to some fantastic places. Unfortunately, it is let down by attention to detail. The huge lawned garden, and gravelled parking areas are sheltered and have a BBQ and picnic bench, but unfortunately the calf-deep grass hadn't been cut for weeks. What would have been a good area for the kids to play on was a no go as it seldom got dry. The bathrooms, whilst dated were functionally fine, but only 2 loo rolls for a family of 5 for one week? The kitchen is huge, and relatively well equipped, but if you want to make use of the dish washer, you have to bring your own tablets. There is plenty of space in the living room, and enough seating, but it all feels a bit like student digs from the 90's. The TV had to be switched off at the wall, as the remotes off button doesn't work (and we replaced the batteries as they were flat). The owner met us to hand over keys on arrival. Milk and flowers were supplied, which were appreciated. None of the issues above stopped us from not fully enjoying our trip to Cornwall, but having read the other reviews online, and in the cottages visitors book, it seems that the issues have been ongoing for a couple of years, and don't look like they are to be addressed anytime soon?

Salathiels is a tidy bungalow, although the decor is a little tired and the double bed was a little rickety, but with a beautifully firm mattress. The grass outside was very long so it was not particularly inviting for sitting in the garden despite the provision of a table with bench seats. For a rural location it was a disappointment to me that there were no local farmshops or similar facilities, a drive to the outskirts of Newquay being necessary to buy groceries from supermarkets. We were also unable to buy logs (which were not provided) for the open fire locally, eventually finding them in the Co-op in Wadebridge, so we used the very efficient central heating initially. On arrival I contacted the owner who appeared extremely quickly to provide us with the keys to the house, and show us round identifying, amongst other things, locations of washing machine, tumble dryer, and spare pillows. It was several hours later that we realised there were no towels, but after contacting the owner, she brought some for us on the Monday morning apologising for the oversight. Fortunately we had packed a couple of hand towels which kept us going! Despite its shortcomings, the house was adequately equipped with crockery, cutlery and glasses, and the tumble dryer (although we did not use it) compensated for the lack of a washing line outside. Plenty of cushions on the armchairs and settees enabled us to arrange them adequately for comfort, and everything throughout the house was very clean.
