We had a great long weekend at Sailor’s Cottage in February with our dog. Excellent location for dog walking right on the waterside. Superb accommodation and well equipped for a comfortable stay. A home away from home. Close enough to access Edinburgh city centre and the airport with local amenities.

Comfortable, cosy , harbourside flat over two floors. Ideal for our family get-together including the dogs. Plenty walks along beach or up to falls and along Riverside Almond. 15/20 mins drive from Leith, buses nearby and cycle route past the door. Local pub a bit of hit or miss but try the bistro below or Cramond Falls Cafe 10 mins walk. Ideal base for popping over to Give. Owner very helpful .

Although the first impression was quite good,we soon started to see things that was not good. The shower in the en-suite was filthy, the shower hose was black with mold, the shower tray had alge on area's around the edge and as for the waste well we can only describe it as disgusting. The waste in the others shower room was also disgusting thick hair trapped in the waste. The oven in the kitchen had no indication as to the temperature which meant we to to very careful that we didn't under cook or over cook our meals. The cable on hairdryer was damaged, so risk of electric shock was possible.

When we arrived we were told the fridge had not been working properly but to let them know in the morning if the alarm on the fridge had gone off at all, the lady said she would then order a new one. The alarm went off 4 times in the night, There was already a spare fridge and freezer in the property which makes me think they knew about the problem before we arrived. There was a smell of off milk in the cottage all wkend and we didn't feel we could eat there. It also did not feel very clean, under the stairs you could see paint pots etc., I feel these could of been moved. There also seemed to be a lot of youths parking up and messing around outside, so it was noisy and we were worried about damage to our car.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Many thanks for your constructive feedback, which we have addressed as follows. Firstly, we have replaced the fridge freezer with a brand new one and the old one has of course been removed. It took a few days for this to be put in place for which we apologise. Secondly, previous guests had unfortunately spilled some milk in the property but had not informed us. After much searching and cleaning, it took some time to locate the source of the smell but we did eventually find it and it has been sorted out and the smell is not longer present. Finally, we have shared your comments with our cleaning agency. Whilst we have had very positive feedback from previous and more recent guests about the standard of cleanliness of the property, we have ensured that a thorough spring clean has been undertaken.

The cottage was in a stunning location and we were fortunate enough to experience a whole week of good weather. There were a couple of issues experienced with two kitchen appliances that the owner assures me will be ironed out for the next occupants.
