Royal Oak Farm is a detached, thatched holiday cottage full of character, situated in the heart of Winsford, one of Exmoor’s prettiest villages. Some of the original parts of the cottage date back to the 14th century. There is generous living space and a large enclosed garden to enjoy. Winsford is located in the heart of Exmoor National Park. There is an inviting pub next to the cottage and a local shop within walking distance. The cottage is surrounded by the majesty of Exmoor and there is easy access to some spectacular country walks on the moorland with an extensive network of well marked footpaths. Dulverton is located 6 miles away and has a wider range of shops, restaurants and tea rooms. A visit to Tarr Steps and Dunkery Beacon (highest point on Exmoor) are some of the highlights. Wimball Lake is a short drive away where you can enjoy the wildlife that surrounds the lake, or enjoy sailing, canoeing or angling on the lake. Other local attractions that may be of interest are the village and castle at Dunster, the West Somerset Railway at Minehead and the villages of Porlock Weir, Lynton and Lynmouth. There are beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor. Shop

    A great location and a lovely old farmhouse in an idyllic village. This was the 5 th property we've rented via Cottages4you and whilst it was spacious and had a super garden some of the interior features were not as good as those experienced previously. The bedrooms were well appointed and the single tiny room was ideal fora 2 year old but would be too small for an adult. The bathrooms definitely need updating and we ended up only using one of the upstairs showers as the one over the bath leaked through the ceiling into the corridor below however we set up the shower screen. The downstairs wet room is not an attacrive space at all. Downstairs there is plenty of space but it does look a bit tired and dated and the carpet in the lounge is really scruffy. The room didn't feel really clean. The kitchen is quite a small space for a house of this size and the equipment again is a bit dated - 6 teaspoons meant we seemed to be permanently washing them up! However the dining room with its huge table and plenty of seats for 9 was great! We a,so experienced toaster problems as when we tried to use all 4 slots a fuse blew - in the end we used 2 but making toast in the morning proved a slow process. So in conclusion yes we would go back but with some improvements it could be excellent rather than the good it is at the moment.

We understand the bathrooms need updating and are having the downstairs bathroom refurbished and the two upstairs bathrooms updated in October. The sitting room carpet is only two years old, and from your feedback and our own feedback I have complained to the carpet company as it is not the quality we had been assured, and hence asked for a replacement. I was unaware of the toaster and have ordered a new one. The plumber is fixing the shower. We would like to make the house excellent, and improvements are being done all the time, especially over the next year. These include a new fence (this summer), thatch (next spring, weather dependent), kitchen (early next year) and upstairs double glazed windows (autumn). We will also be updating the downstairs. We hope you will come to the cottage again and you will be impressed with all the improvements!
