We enjoyed our short stay and it was convenient for the places we wanted to visit. The cottage was very comfortable and our only comment is the lack of a shower and the low water pressure. The owner was very friendly and welcoming.

An excellent property. Very well equipped and a real home from home. It was warm and cosy . The owner was very pleasant and helpful. The only negative was that there was no shower curtain, so our guests were reluntant to use the shower.

Owner very welcoming. Solved minor issues promptly. Favourite room was the lounge. The only little irritation was not having a screened shower which resulted in the bathroom getting wet. Overall the cottage was extremely comfortable, well decorated and safe due to being behind electronic gates. Also, perfectly situated for pleasant walks by the river.

The cottage was well equipped and the owner, Jean made us feel very welcome. The cottage is 'gated' and very secure. She had ensured that plenty of cleaning materials were on hand for us to use and had provided a Welcome Pack (tea, coffee, milk, sugar, biscuits etc) which was very well received. There were large supermarkets on the retail park in nearby Consett where we could buy our food and the local convenience stores in Blackhill proved very handy. Bedding and towels were all of excellent quality and condition - as were all the furnishings in the cottage. The master bedroom was slightly on the small side, but more than adequate. The location, overlooking the river Derwent, was both secluded and idyllic and the cottage grounds were immaculately kept, with a chair-swing, outdoor table and good seating. Internet signal strength is good but mobile phone coverage is, at best, fair. Being centrally located on the edge of Northumbria and County Durham it is ideally situated for visiting many places of interest and also for enjoying the magnificent local countryside (a riverside walk starts just 50 yards from the cottage) and Jean has thoughtfully provided the local OS Map for use. Every day of our two week stay we were able to go somewhere new and interesting.
