Set on the bank of the River Trent with a first floor living room enjoying views along the river, this detached property, aptly named Riverbank Cottage, is ideal for those looking for a peaceful holiday retreat or a base from which to explore this historic area. Benefiting from a ground floor bedroom and shower room and with a snug area off the kitchen, as well as the first floor living room there is space for all to enjoy. There are many good walks and cycle routes around with golf courses only a short drive away. Lincoln Cathedral is less than an hour’s drive away and Scunthorpe, Beverley, York and Hull are within an hour’s drive. Epworth, 9 miles, is the birth place of John Wesley and of Methodism. The whole area is known as The Isle of Axholme having been drained by the Dutch some 300 years ago. There are many interesting things to visit within a 20-mile radius, such as the famous Haxey Hood (held in January), The Vulcan Experience, a wealth of wildlife and bird reserves, the fantastic Yorkshire Wildlife Park and so much more. There are good pubs in the area for some refreshment after a long walk and a pleasant south-facing patio area to one side of the cottage. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

    Lovely setting and very pleasant owner who was there to greet us.... The drive way is slightly tight if you have a wide car but you can park on the road ok Thank you .... We will be back

    the area is very nice and quite for relaxation, the only thing was not so good are the mattresses which was not comfortable

    We enjoyed our stay at Riverbank Cottage however several issues prevented us from giving it a higher score. First and foremost the beds were very uncomfortable and the double bed was very creaky. Secondly, the pictures on the website belie the overlooked aspect at the front and side of the property. Thirdly, the parking at the cottage is in our view, impossible to access - we did however appreciate the ability to park 3 minutes away at the owners house. Finally, we thought a TV in the upstairs lounge would have been a good addition as there was not enough seating downstairs for the 8 people it is advertised to host. Nevertheless, the upstairs lounge was very comfortable and the garden and patio were lovely (particularly the views of the church). The dog walking was excellent and the forethought of a dogs bed/bowls etc was appreciated.

    We enjoyed our week at the cottage. The location was good,giving easy access to shops,and good access to other roads and motorways. Our only criticism was that the beds were well past their prime.

    A beautiful location overlooking the canal and the house was clean and well equipped, however there are issues with the access to this property. The lane up to the house is extremely narrow with little to no room to turn and exit. Also the neighbors park right up to the entrance so is made even more difficult to access the property. We were told there is space to park on the street, but this is hard to find.

    We have family who live nearby, so we thought that this would be a regular visit. The driveway was extremely narrow, exacerbated by neighbours who park right up to the entrance to the drive. The ONLY way the drive can be entered is by swinging on to the opposite pavement. This is a problem at this property. The house was clean and well furnished, but the oven had one door missing the the second oven was very dirty. The bbq which was mentioned in the description was in a filthy condition. When relaxing in the first floor lounge most of this could be forgiven on account of the peace and tranquility of the setting.

    We had a great weekend stay in the cottage in late April, it was quiet and comfortable, with plenty of space for us and lovely outside seating area - we did have some scattered sunshine to enjoy! The bedrooms and 2 bathrooms were good, and a nice big kitchen for us to cook and have meals together. We appreciated the milk, butter and crumpets left for us by the owner too, thank you. Our only suggestion would be to move the tv to the larger upstairs living room, as the downstairs area wasn't big enough for our group to sit together to watch a movie one evening, but this is likely a personal preference. We would recommend the property to families and groups of friends, it is also (one) dog friendly.

    Great cottage very clean and spot on for convenience and facilities. Great location for Hull and Lincoln. Nice restaurant nearby. The ferryboat.
