There are many distilleries, stunning castles, secluded glens and beautiful gardens to visit. Meander along the banks of the Caledonian Canal, or watch the boats navigate the locks. Boat trips on Loch Ness to see Urquhart Castle or to hunt for the Loch Ness monster can be arranged locally. Both properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 8 guests. We had a lovely time here, the house was spotless and everything that you needed was provided including a good hairdryer, towels, washing up liquid etc. The view from the living room window was beautiful over the hills. The village of Fort Augustus itself is great, you can spend a few hours just sitting watching the boats going up and down the locks. We did a bit of driving going up to Portree on the Isle of Skye, took about 2 .5hrs. Also went over to Inverness about 1hr drive.

Everything about the accommodation was spot on. The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding areas. The only thing missing was a welcome refreshment tray.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We are delighted the accommodation was “spot on” for you and the location is ideal for exploring. We normally leave a welcome tray for all our guests. Unfortunately we were unable to be here the day you arrived and somehow your welcome tray was missed. Please accept our sincere apologies! Hopefully you will return to Rivendell Cottage and allow us to make amends.
