Really great base for exploring the Highlands - Inverness and Culloden, Eilean Donan Castle and Skye, Loch Ness Visitor Centre and Urquhart Castle. Plenty to do. Also spent a bit of time at the canalside in Fort Augustus watching the boats go through. The village is within walking distance of the cottage. Boat trips available from Fort Augustus too and lots of walks around the village. Boathouse restaurant worth a visit - has a lovely setting on the Loch. Cottage was extremely comfortable, clean and well equipped. Owners very friendly and informative about the area. They had a large garden which our eight year old could play in before we set off each day.

We had a lovely time here, the house was spotless and everything that you needed was provided including a good hairdryer, towels, washing up liquid etc. The view from the living room window was beautiful over the hills. The village of Fort Augustus itself is great, you can spend a few hours just sitting watching the boats going up and down the locks. We did a bit of driving going up to Portree on the Isle of Skye, took about 2 .5hrs. Also went over to Inverness about 1hr drive.
