A great family holiday. Plenty of space both inside and out, I cannot think of anything extra that is not provided by the owners. Hot Tub was a bonus and used every night. A bottle of bubbly, chocs, and even chews for the dogs left as a welcome pack was a nice touch from the owner, and very much appreciated, thank you. Would we stay here again? Most definitely, we had a ball!!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your kind comments. We look forward to welcoming you to Ridge House again in the future.

A lovely house and a relaxing stay. The only disappointment was the weather preventing a few more dips in the hot tub but that's not a fault of the house! Plenty of space for all those staying and the children enjoyed playing with the games available. The owners were even kind enough to mail back an item we had left behind and did so very promptly. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your kind comments and your understanding that the house is not to blame for inclement weather. We are always more than happy to return any items that have been left behind - we appreciate these things happen. We hope you would like to visit Ridge House again in the future and look forward to welcoming you then.

Lovely time . The decor in the house is quite old fashioned . There could be more kitchen utensils . The hot tub could do with a shelter as it rained and it was windy most of the weekend so we didn't use hot tub .

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I'm very pleased that you had a lovely time at our property - most people do. With regards to your extremely low, and I must say surprising 5/10 score which is greatly out of line with our previous guests this year, I would comment as follows: I'm sorry to read that you do not like the decor Ridge House offers - decor is a personal taste and cannot appeal to all. However, everything is clearly depicted either in the photographs or the description of Ridge House on all websites, so there shouldn't have been any surprises regarding this or the fact that the hot tub is open to the elements - clearly shown on the rear view photograph of the property. I'm very sorry to hear that you were unable to use the hot tub due to rain, but funnily enough this is actually a really fun time to sit in the warm water and relax... snow is even better, but we don't get that very often. One of the main enjoyments of the hot tub is the fact that you are able to lay back in the warm water and look at the stars... this of course could not happen if the hot tub was in a shelter. I think you will find that the majority of hot tubs are open to the elements for that reason. I wish I could control the weather, but alas this is not the case... had I been able to I'm sure you would have enjoyed all the views that the hot tub has to offer. With regards to the lack of kitchen utensils, we have never received this comment before, of course not all utensils are on display, some are in the drawers and cupboards. Most guests comment on how well equipped the house is. However, that being said I will certainly look into this and rectify the situation should it be necessary. Ridge House is "lived in" for two separate weeks by family and friends to "road test" for the following season every year, and I take on board any constructive criticisms they make with regards to all the necessary items required to live comfortably in a holiday home for a week or two and act accordingly. I appreciate their comments being candid as this ensures we are able to provide well for our guests, but I have to say they are mostly very complimentary, especially about the homely little touches we provide.

Excellent location but house does need some updating particularly 2 of the upstairs bedrooms that need on suite conversations. Personally being a child of the sixties I liked the style and decor but the grown children didn't think it was modern enough and were very concerned about the drop from the patio to the garden. It does need strong iron work supported oak type fencing along the edge of the patio area to make the property child friendly. Equally the rickety wooden fencing separating the upper and lower garden areas needs to be improved for small children in the property. Overall the property was good and well maintained and the minor problems quickly sorted. I would certainly come back again off season when the pricing is more reasonable.

Response on behalf of the Owner; I hope that you enjoyed your stay despite your comments. I'm sorry to read that your grown children do not like the decor that Ridge House offers - decor is personal taste and cannot appeal to all. However, everything is clearly depicted either in the photographs or the description of Ridge House on all websites, so there shouldn't have been any surprises regarding this or any of the other things you mention. It doesn't mention that there is anything other than one en-suite, which was perfectly acceptable to my family when I had the property designed and built, plus there is no room for further en-suites in any of the other rooms. There are, however, two full bathrooms upstairs, and an additional downstairs full bathroom and separate toilet - quite sufficient in my opinion. As regards the drop from the patio to the garden, we have been letting Ridge House since 2009 through the Agency under their various guises and were advised by the Area Manager that no fencing was necessary. All that was needed were the plant pots which clearly depict the edge of the patio - again this is clearly shown in the photograph of the rear of the property on the website. The rickety fence as you call it that separates the upper and lower garden is not designed to keep children corralled into an area, it is merely a remnant of when we kept our children’s pony in the garden. I trust this clarifies your observations. The property will not be changing with regard to any of your comments, so if you would still like to revisit Ridge House, we look forward to welcoming you and your family again.

We had a lovely stay and house well equipt, but you need a car the beach within walking distance means walking along a main road then down a steep hill and Torquay is about 15 mins away. House itself is lovley and spacious and the garden is brilliant for the dogs and kids. We did have issues with the hottub the filter broke so the water was dirty and couldent be used for the last two days, and lots of light bulbs around the house were not working. Bins are an issue we put them out on the Tuesday as did everyone else in the row but they weren't collected and were already full from the previous week.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Many thanks for taking the time to post your comments. The beach can actually be accessed by walking down lanes as opposed to the main road - this does require crossing the main road though and it is down a steep hill, but I think you'll agree is worth the visit. There are many beaches in the area - within a few miles with a completely flat approach. We're really glad that you and the children/dogs enjoyed the house and gardens. It was unfortunate that you had a problem with the hot tub - although I did find it rather strange to read a comment in our Comments Book - "very fun house we broke the hot tub by accident but very old". The hot tub is fully maintained and doesn't usually cause any problems. It is serviced regularly so we found it very strange that you had a problem. However, when the engineer was investigating the problems with the hot tub it transpired that someone had pushed something into the control panel causing water to penetrate and thus lead to a to shorting of the system which in turn affected the filter system. As you will see from above, there appears to be an admission of the damaged caused. I can only assume that this was the same person that was allowed to print their name stamp all up the bannisters (necessitating a complete re-paint) and on the walls in the the Master bedroom. It would be helpful if supervision was in place to prevent damage to property. I'm not sure why you had problems with the light bulbs - these are checked at every changeover - we also had an electrician in (my son) during the previous week who had undertaken some remedial works and testing. I can only apologise for any inconvenience caused. However replacement bulbs can be found in the kitchen drawer and if a phone call had been made to our housekeeper someone would have attended the property to replace them for you. I can only apologise for the problems you had with the bins, I cannot understand why they weren't collected on the alloted day - as you say it would appear that the whole road was missed. I have contacted the Council and hope this won't be a problem in the future. Unfortunately, sometimes when people are away they aren't familiar with the "re-cycling" system and do put a lot of items into the wheelie bins that should actually be re-cycled thus over-filling the general collection bins. Once again, apologies for this inconvenience.
