Description

An elegant Grade II listed property with plenty of original features and a woodburning stove. The perfect rural retreat yet only one mile from a shop and pub.

Formerly part of the Foremark Hall Estate and on the edge of the National Forest, these three Grade II listed properties date from 1752. They enjoy a peaceful rural holiday location with excellent local walks and great views of the Grade I listed Foremark Hall, a Georgian-Palladian country house. Foremark Threshing Barn is a beautifully converted spacious barn with a full height atrium style dining area displaying the original roof timbers and galleried landing. From here, full width French windows lead to a large garden which features a paved patio area with garden furniture and a barbecue. Repton Cottage is named after the nearby village of Repton, the historic capital of Mercia. Burdett’s Cottage is named after the Burdett family whose ancestral home was Foremark Hall next door. Featuring cosy living rooms with wood burning stoves and exposed timbers, the traditional brick cottages of Repton and Burdett’s make perfect rural holiday retreats. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Loved the cottage but due to location it was difficult to walk to the village due to the time of year, dark early with no lights or footpaths making it dangerous.

Lovely wee cottage in such a peaceful setting. kitchen was really well equipped, living room was lovely with a wood stove in the fireplace, also electric radiators. Nicely decorated and a homey feel to the house. Staircase really steep especially at the turn at the top, would not be suitable for folks with mobility issues. King size bed was comfy and room a good size. The only bathroom is through the main bedroom, though it is a nicely done shower room. Mobile phone coverage is patchy, I had to walk up the hill a bit to get a signal but my husband could sometimes get a signal in the house.

Beautiful little cottage in a lovely position. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Everything was clean and of high quality. There were only 2 issues which we found disappointing and would like to bring to your attention. 1. Although there was a washing machine in the cottage there was no clothes dryer. Consequently, washing had to be dried on airing racks indoors. As the weather was very wet during the week we were in Repton cottage, this became a nuisance as washing took up to 3 days to dry. To be fair we were offered the use of a tumble dryer in the main house but there was no response when we knocked at the door. 2. Having rented many properties over the last 10 years in the UK, this is the first time towels have not been provided. Having travelled to the UK from Australia, this was very inconvenient. We found it cheaper to purchase towels and dispose of them at the end of the week rather than pay 25 pounds per week to hire towels. If the abovementioned items were addressed we believe the cottage is worthy of a 4 star rating.
