Description

Red Deer Lodge is aptly named, looking out towards acres of woodland - so well situated for glimpsing these most beautiful of creatures.

The peaceful village of Finsthwaite nestles amongst large ares of woodland one mile from Lakeside at the southern end of the Lake Windermere and close to Hawkshead and Grizedale Forest. The area offers some excellent walking opportunities, much favoured by Wainwright, including the circular five mile walk to High and Low Dam, from where the waters drove the nearby Stott Park Bobbin Mill. High Dam Tarn is a well known beauty spot and where stands Finsthwaite Tower, built to commemorate those servicemen who defeated the French in the 18th century. St Peter’s Church is well worth a visit, the churchyard home to the grave of the Finsthwaite Princess, believed to be the daughter of Prince Charles Edward, the Young Pretender.
Red Deer Lodge is very aptly named, looking out across St Peter’s Church towards acres of dense, mature woodland, perfectly placed for spotting a glimpse of these most beautiful of creatures. Having undergone a major transformation in readiness for holiday letting. Red Deer Lodge now offers excellent, quality accommodation for either two families or a larger gathering of friends who wish to enjoy a quieter, more rural location but within easy reach of the more popular resorts when required.

one of the most well equipped properties we have stayed in. The only reason we have scored 8 overall is that we had problems with hot water for showers

This is a great place to stay if you want direct access to walks and the countryside. The pool table and dartboard give you the ability to make your own fun whilst the separate room upstairs allow others in the party to do something different or just chill out with a film or computer games. I stayed with my grown up family and being away from pubs etc it made us make our own fun time, which it did with ease. A great comfortable place to stay with ample room.

It was a lovely property in a stunning location. A great choice for a family. We had a wonderful holiday. The kids loved the games room.Only one niggle- no towels supplied which is unusual and I'm not sure if this was made clear in the description. It may well be my oversight. Although there are no real local amenities this was not a problem but actually what we desired. Some lovely walks from the doorstep. We had two dogs with us who loved the place. I did have some sympathy for the neighbour because the capacity of the drive is limited and we had 3 cars with us. However, there is parking across the road at the church. I would suggest that if the drive was sorted out it would make things easier for the neighbour. If you've got a bike rack on the car it's very difficult to use the drive.

Wonderful accommodation, spacious yet very warm and homely. Beautifully decorated and equipped. The home owners thought of everything and left a very thoughtful welcome package. Would recommend it to anyone.
