Description

Providing an ideal base for a couple, this property is located in the Brecon Beacons – a natural playground for exploration.

Set in a fabulous secluded location, surrounded by panoramic views of the black mountains, Rhiwddu Barns is located within the Brecon Beacons National Park (AONB) and offers peace and tranquillity in abundance. These three semi-detached, holiday cottages, converted from traditional farm buildings have been sympathetically restored and furnished to a very good standard, providing an ideal touring base for a family or couple. Outside, there are private patio areas where you can sit, relax and unwind, whilst watching the peregrine falcons and red kites soar over the magnificent scenery. The Brecon Beacons is a natural playground for ramblers, birdwatchers and mountain bikers alike, offering breath-taking views with fantastic walks amidst the tumbling waterfalls and shimmering lakes. Nearby, the ancient market towns of Llandelio and Llandovery are famous for the strong Welsh culture and offer plenty of shops, traditional pubs and restaurants, within a short driving. Explore the historic castles of the west including Dryslwyn, Carreg Cennen and Dynefwr. For family days out, visit the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Dan Yr Ogof Caves, Dolaucoth Goldmines or an hour’s drive; enjoy the thrilling leisure parks of Pembrokeshire or visit Oakwood, Folly Farm and Bluestone, set in the popular coastal resort of Tenby. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Lovely place . Kitchen equip not as good as expected for 5* but good for normal. No phone signal so all emergency numbers to contact not usable...... very comfortable and relaxng. Lovely area with stunning view but very remote. As so remote more local info would be good.

Location is superb - remote with excellent walking onto the Brecons from the door. The Wi-fi connection is excellent. The property had the following negatives - 1) Underfloor heating meant there were no radiators and hence no way to dry wet clothing/boots. This wasn't too much of a problem for the week of my visit due to good weather and temperatures of 16 - 20c but in cold, wet weather would present a problem for serious walkers. From day to day you would be forced to wear partially dry/damp boots and clothing. Drying wet towels would take a couple of days. 2) Very poorly equipped considering it is advertised as a luxury property.....only one (small) saucepan and one medium sized frying pan made any cooking difficult. There was a double settee but no other comfortable seating meaning two people have no choice but to sit close to one another for the whole week. An additional comfortable armchair is required along with a foot stool and side tables. During my stay there was a need to carry out some minor DIY which required both a torch and a screwdriver - neither were provided but luckily I had brought both with me. Many people would not think to do so and would have been seriously inconvenienced. 3) The property is advertised as dog friendly but having a non-enclosed garden area with sheep freely roaming right outside and up to the door is not desirable. It should be made clear in the property description that dogs cannot be let off the lead at any time and that the outside area is not enclosed. I for one would not have booked if I'd known this in advance. Every time you need to let the dogs out you need to put them on the lead, be fully dressed and walk them round the back of the property which is pitch black - again, if you haven't got a torch you'll struggle. Emphasis on clearing dog mess and depositing it in the required bin is all well and good but when the whole area is already covered in sheep droppings it loses it's impact. 4) A stud wall separates the property from one of the adjoining rentals and the sound insulation is poor. If you are looking for peace and quiet to read/sleep it is difficult when your neighbours are playing music/TV at any sort of volume.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. There is a full pan set provided and we feel the sofa is very spacious, this has never been reported as being too small, nor the pan set being inadequate. The DIY you are referring to was actually a beeping smoke alarm, I believe you were advised that the caretaker would bring a new battery. However it seems you dismantled the whole smoke alarm leaving bare wires hanging out of the ceiling which then required an electrician to refit it. The smoke alarm is hard wired and cannot be isolated by turning off the supply, therefore for health and safety reasons would not recommend that guests try and attempt such tasks. I can confirm it is now in working order.
