English Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Situated between the Jurassic Coast and the village of Corfe Castle, this large property for 25 guests has an on-site winery!

This large detached holiday home is located in the village of Harmans Cross, between the Jurassic Coastline, a designated World Heritage Site, and the picture postcard village of Corfe Castle. The vineyard was established in 2000 and has some 3000 vines. The on-site winery enables the wine grapes to be harvested, pressed and vinified into wine that truly is chateau bottled. Tours can be organised by prior arrangement. Food hampers, casks and ½ casks of local beer and wine can be pre-ordered. The bedrooms are inviting, unique and individual - designed with relaxation in mind; they all feature hand sprung mattresses, deep baths or spectacular power showers. Many of the rooms have balconies overlooking the vineyard, steam railway and views of the panoramic Purbeck Hills. This accommodation has been furnished using the finest contemporary fabrics, fittings and furniture.
The Swanage steam railway can be seen passing by along the bottom of the valley close to the vineyard and one of the stops is at nearby Harmans Cross station. The line runs from NT Corfe Castle along to Swanage. The seaside town of Swanage is popular all year around, with the coastal paths, Dulston Country Park, a sandy beach, promenade and small pier. Activities which can be enjoyed locally include horse riding, sailing, golf, tennis, diving, windsurfing and sea fishing. There is also an RSPB reserve at Arne near the Saxon town of Wareham. Popular places to visit include Blue Pool, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, NT Brownsea Island, Monkey World and Bovington Tank Museum. A little further a field are the larger seaside resorts of Sandbanks, Bournemouth and Weymouth. The Sealife Centre, Abbotsbury Swannery and Athelhampton House and Gardens are easily accessible. Garage/shop 550 yards. Shops, pubs and local restaurant 1 mile.

We loved it, we stayed for a one week break over Easter. A family gathering from ages 2 to 88 and everyone had a great time. Unfortunately weather was a little wet but did not deter and we walked and rode the steam train at the bottom of the Garden into Swanage the kids a new experience and the oldies a time to remember. Walks upto Corfe Castle just down the road and recommend a trip to Studland Beach and Brownsea Island to see the Red Squirrels was lovely after a little boat ride. Dorset and Purbeck just stunning place to stay. And the vinyard a perfect place for a large party. Can't think of any negatives, well maybe one a proper door between the two downstairs bedrooms would give more options.

Had a great time here with family and friends. Plenty of room for everyone. Would have rated higher but for a few minor things like missing or not working light bulbs.

This lovely large house with en suite bedrooms was a great venue for our friends and family break for Christmas. Our 20 person group ranged from 62 years down to 4 years and a small dog. The house was well equipped for a party of our size however for the teenagers the X Box and Wii were both not working - disappointing. The welcome hamper was a kind consideration. The Vineyard garden was lovely even at this time of year and we were left alone to enjoy our weekend break. There was nothing around locally but that fit with our plans, we did however travel into Swanage for a walk along the beach one day and to Corfe Castle another.

What a wonderful time we had at Purbeck. The whole house is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and all en-suite. There is sufficient space in the house for everyone and there is a bar billiards table which everyone loved. The kitchen is well equipped, as is the whole house. The garden furniture could do with a little loving care or renewing but it wasn't an issue. There is so much to do out and about. It is a great place with a great atmosphere and wonderful for large get togethers. I was there to celebrate my 60th birthday with family and friends and it will be well remembered by everyone.

Not enough Hot Water available and lots of water wasted getting Hot water at all. Rad leak in Room 1 bathroom also door does not close or lock. Rad had to be on all the time otherwise a big leak through into dining room and loud boiler noise. Bed in room 9 broken and unusable. Beds not comfortable. Tatty outside areas and Garden not well kept. Oven space inadequate for the level of people. Loose wiring to the rear of cooker. The house space is a great place for a family gathering, but far more attention to detail required.
