The cottage was filthy. The kitchen had sticky work surfaces and floor, sink was badly stained with a big hair on top, cooker not cleaned, all radiators were sticky on top and had a thick layer of brown dust at the bottom. Couldn’t get the heating to work the first night so called the owner but she didn’t respond until the following day. Went to take a bath to get warm, had to clean the bath first but then realised the room hadn’t been cleaned at all. The floors, windows and walls were dirty and stained and the bin hadn’t been emptied. Worse still was the toilet, stained brown and with splashes of faecal matter up the sides of the bowl. I never used the bathroom again. The ensuite shower leaks all over and is impossible to use. My husband and I shared the other remaining bathroom. The shower worked okay but the shower head was stained green with limescale, the tray was grubby, the bath mat stained and the towel rail did not heat properly. The bedding was stained, as were the carpets. The pillows we were sleeping on were badly stained yellow and had no pillow protectors. All furniture was grubby. We were so uncomfortable we left a day early and contacted the owner to say how disappointed we’d been at how it had been left for us. She had seen the radiators when she’d been around to adjust the heating, so it didn’t bode well, and the feedback book in the cottage had listed ongoing issues and the last few pages had been torn out.. The owner responded by saying she was sorry it hadn’t met my standards and would take it up with her cleaners! It wouldn’t meet anyone’s standards. The fact that she doesn’t feel any duty of care or responsibility is unacceptable and she deserves this bad review. I can only hope at least no one else finds it in such a condition.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for the feedback. I always use constructive criticism to improve Priory Cottage. I did not receive a phone call about the heating but did attend the property after receiving a text that morning and I did adjust the timer. There have been times when I’ve needed to highlighted areas of cleaning that needed further attention but in no way was Priory cottage left in any condition that has been described. I do take a duty of care and full responsibility for the way my property is presented. I still regard Priory Cottage as my family home which I rent out to holidaymakers. I do have a professional cleaning firm and I do regular spot checks. As can be evidenced from previous reviews the majority of my guests have given very positive feedback.

We went for my husbands 40th as a group of 10 adults - a fantastic cottage which was perfect! Easy walking distance to Freshwater and easy access to some great walks to alum bay and the needles!

The house is a good size for 10 (8 adults and 2 kids) however there were maintenance problems every day. The walk in shower leaks and comes through the ceiling below, and another leak comes in on the wall into the lounge (both weren't of particular concern to the owners). There was an issue with the oven which was fixed but irritating that we had to attend to it with the plumber. A previous review complained about the cot as it had peeling paint and the answer on the review was that this would be replaced - that is not the case and the one we had to use also had flaking paint. Overall the house could do with a deep clean and the bathroom shower blockage which prevents water draining away must be resolved if the house is to cope with 8 people showering (the other shower is in the ensuite so not easy to use if people are in their room). Garden and outside space was very nice and jacuzzi very good.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your constructive comments, apologise for the leak in the shower and the roof, the shower was blocked and has been addressed. I gained quotes for the roof to be fixed by a builder, a plumber was called due to a problem with the cooker, which was resolved on the same day. I do use a professional cleaning firm and check the standard of cleaning, I will bring your comments up with our cleaners, hope to see you back at priory cottage.

We had a really lovely time at the cottage. The gardens were great, especially for the dogs and the house was a great size for the 8 of us. The kitchen table was perfect for playing games in the evening and the hot tub was a real treat. The Vine & Highdown Inn were both extremely dog friendly and served great food; both only 15 min walk away. The cottage could be cleaner but wasn't too bad. All of us said we would happily stay again and would reccommend.

The house was charming and well suited for a party of adults. It was lovely to be able to have our dogs with us and the garden was perfect for them and outside play with the family. We spoke to the owner regarding the effectiveness of their cleaners and were reassured that this would be addressed. We wouldn't stay here again unless the property was made more child friendly. Although a cot was provided, it had flaking paint. There was a stair gate at the foot of the stairs but not at the top. There were exposed electrical services in the wardrobe of the children's bedroom which needed to be covered with a panel and not located near books and toys. A nice property but I would not recommend it for families unless changes were made.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. In regards to the comments about the cot, this will be replaced in the next few weeks. We do provide an additional stairgate on request which we will not leave in the property. The electric box is in the back bedroom and we will ensure it is enclosed for future bookings. We hope to see you back at Priory Cottage in the future.

We had a fabulous weekend, marred only by a walk in shower that flooded through the ceiling to the corridor below. Such a shame. Otherwise couldn't fault it. It did make it quite time consuming for 8 girls to shower as other bathroom only had a bath. Wouldn't stop me from going back as ambience , styling and comfort were 5* plus.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. So pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. We can only apologise for the new shower, we have had some teething issues with this, but we confirm there are 2 working showers at the property. We hope to see you back at Priory Cottage in the future.

We a family of five stayed at Priory Cottage for half term. Very spacious, and well equipped; however needed a good clean, floors, doors and skirting boards especially. Location great for walking on downs, but had to drive a lot to all attractions. Close to built up housing area which we had not expected. Hot tub great though.
