Yorkshire Cottages

The Yorkshire Regional Specialist -Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Yorkshire better!

Description

A superb detached character property which is stylishly furnished.

Set in a quiet location in the Yorkshire Dales village of Malham in the heart of the National Park, Prior Hall Cottage has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard, with every attention to detail. Families or friends will delight in this idyllic property perfect for holidays or short breaks in this glorious corner of Yorkshire. The whole building has a wealth of original features and dates back to the era when the local monks occupied part of the building as a counting house for collecting local land revenues. For ease and convenience for large families or groups there are two well equipped kitchen areas, a cosy sitting room and a large open plan character sitting/dining room. An excellent location to enjoy walks directly from the doorstep with ’The Pennine Way’ passing close by, with the spectacular limestone scenery of Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Malham Tarn forming the backdrop. Enjoy relaxing and dining alfresco on the patio on those warmer days and evenings or take a short stroll to the village where there are two pubs serving excellent food. The village also has tea shops and a shop for everyday needs. Should you wish to tear yourself away from relaxing at this superb property, then the market towns of Settle, Grassington and Skipton are all within a short drive.

Cottage is in a brilliant location and is plenty big enough even fully occupied. Building is warm and comfortable in the main, although being effectively split over two distinct buildings means there is not really any single space where a full 14-15 can relax. With a load of kids that's not a huge deal though. Some of the bedrooms are very small though with tiny beds which could be an issue if you're 6ft+. The main issue with the bedrooms is lack of clothing storage. Some rooms only had a few drawers, no hanging space whatsoever! This means piles of clothes everywhere - not ideal. Showers and bathrooms good although it was possible for the hot water to run out. Equipment generally OK - the AGA was brilliant but I can imagine it being a bit hot in the summer - but the quality, variety and condition of some of the pots, pans & utensils could be improved. Cooking meals for 15 without sharp knives, decent sized pots and pans that were more totally-stick than non-stick was harder than it should be. Plenty of parking space and the garden is big but not ideal for small children due to the steep steps and slippy nature of the stones when wet. Our youngest was 7 so we were OK, but if you have toddlers then I'd say they'd need to be carefully watched. The garden furniture is really in need of replacing though. I think the fact that there is a lot of moss and overhanging trees means it's generally a bit green and slimy leading to the slippy stones and gently rotting table & chairs. Malham is a lovely location though and even in April the kids got great value from just splashing about in the fords. Pubs that we tried were great and of course the Cove etc. is right on your doorstep so it's easy to spend a few days without driving anywhere.

2nd time here and enjoyed by all. Could do with re-assessing kitchen utensils and pots/pans. Not enough equipment to cook a full Xmas dinner. Knives need sharpening too. otherwise lovely accommodation in excellent setting.
