Set in the hamlet of Martin, this detached barn conversion is constructed of a mixture of cob, flint and brick.

Set in the delightful hamlet of Martin, which has a village shop selling fresh produce and provisions, this lovely, detached barn conversion constructed of a mixture of cob, flint and brick, includes features such as oak beams, doors and floors, and a high vaulted ceiling. The owner’s home is adjacent, and part of their garden has been sectioned off with a sitting-out area and a natural, wooden, children’s play area for visitors to enjoy. The church at Martin which can be accessed directly from the property gardens, dates from Norman times, although much of its fabric is 14th century, and the village green still has the village pump; the base of the 15th century village cross can also be seen here. The area is renowned for its excellent walking - the chalk grasslands of Martin Down, 300 yards away, are a national nature reserve and there are several bridle paths which offer superb riding as well. Princess Cottage offers an ideal holiday retreat for couples or small families wishing to explore the area. The cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester, Southampton, with its maritime history and ferries to the Isle of Wight, Poole and Bournemouth, with its sandy beaches, are all within easy driving distance. Visit the New Forest and its many attractions, including Beaulieu Palace, Exbury Gardens and Bucklers Hard, as well as many cycling and horse riding trails. Stabling for 4 horses is available (at cost), as well as a field behind the property, for guests wishing to bring their own mounts. Beach 15 miles. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

The cottage was clean and well presented. However the location was remote and so was a drive to amenities and the new forest itself. Unfortunately we found the beds very hard and uncomfortable and as we both suffer from bad backs this affected us throughout the holiday. We did check the mattresses and they are from John lewis and do have mattress toppers. This cottage has a septic tank which means when you flush the toilets or use the water there is noise for about 5 minutes afterwards which is annoying at night time. You share the front of the property with the owners and as the property is on a road with no frontage we felt we had to have all the blinds shut all the time to get some privacy. The television is small but as we were not at the cottage much it didn't cause us a problem. The owner was very pleasant and the cottage has everything you need and everything is in excellent condition.

The owners were welcoming and helpful, and we were very comfortable in this excellently-appointed cottage for 2-weeks 'home from home' while our own house was being refurbished. Our only regrets were the height and smallness of the TV for watching tennis - and we had hoped to have access to, or be within sight of, a garden. The location is very good for visiting places and countryside round.

People were lovely and cottage was beautiful and clean. My only quibble would be that the picture etc made us think garden was directly off our property but it isn't. Being the mother of a child with Down syndrome there was a gate constantly open that lead straight to the road. This meant we couldn't relax outside.

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for the kind comments. The Garden is located behind the stables away from the road and parked cars in the yard. The gate can be closed or left open at the discretion of guests staying in the property
