Description

Charming family accommodation, close to an extensive network of footpaths, stately homes and racecourses.

This charming, detached 16th-century cottage is steeped in character, boasting stunning beamwork, huge inglenooks with open fires, part wood/part flagstone floor and Victorian-style bathroom. Overlooking open countryside to the rear, Pound Cottage has its own large, well screened garden and terrace - ideal for barbecues - as well as an enclosed kitchen garden. Situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Kirdford, it is less than five minutes’ walk to the popular pubs, serving good food. The property has nearby access to an extensive network of footpaths, leading to this unspoilt part of the low weald, a haven for birds and wildlife.
The quaint town of Petworth is 4 miles away, with its plentiful antique shops, beautiful stately home and Capability Brown park, where live music concerts and outdoor theatre can be enjoyed during the summer months. The charming small town of Midhurst, famous for Polo at Cowdray Park is also a short drive, as are Billingshurst, Haslemere and Guildford. Goodwood, with its motor and horse racing, Fontwell races, Leonardslee, West Dean Gardens, Parham House, The Weald and Downbland open air museum and the South Downs are all within easy driving distance. Chichester has an ancient cathedral, tea rooms, extensive shopping, festival theatre and harbour tours, or alternatively Arundel also has a castle and Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The Witterings and other beaches are half an hour’s drive, and numerous golf courses are within easy reach. Shops 4 miles, pub ¼ mile.

An excellent venue for a family anniversary week end .Plenty of space and the 2 year olds loved running around in the garden. Fully equipped, full of character but also comfortable and quiet. Good location for touring the area, though bigger supermarkets are less handy. Both village pubs welcoming and the food at The Half Moon on a busy Sunday lunch was very good. Would not hesitate to return.

Wonderful property with all the character you hope for when planning a family get together- the fireplace and the kitchen table really made it all work.

Beautiful cottage set in lovely grounds. Being winter we had the log fire burning which added to the coziness. There were a couple of pubs and village store within walking distance.

A beautiful property with plenty of garden space and one enclosed garden to keep little ones safe. The cottage is full of character and there was plenty of space for the 9 of us. In a perfect world we could have done with one extra shower but managed with the 2 bathrooms in the cottage.

A large cottage with bags of rustic charm. Plenty of grounds for children to play and adults to chill out. BBQ great on a sunny day. Minutes walk to village shop and pub. Would recommend the Stag Inn ( less than 2 miles away)which serves great quality food at reasonable prices, better than the village pub. Would also recommend a day out at Arundel or day trip to Brighton (about an hour by train from Billingshurst station). Only criticisms (minor) are that the hot water is dangerously hot, need more light in kitchen and need to warn people of the very low beams upstairs.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments and bringing the issues to our attention. A new thermostat is being fitted to the hot water tank and extra lights are being installed in the kitchen which will hopefully improve guest's experience. Unfortunately there is not much we can do about the beams. It is a very old property and the upstairs beams are part of its charm. They all have signs to 'mind your head' and it is mentioned in the cottage guide that care should be taken. We do understand that it can be painful; we still get caught out from time to time. Hopefully it didn't make your stay too uncomfortable.
