Description

Potts Farm Oast offers guests a unique opportunity to stay in a spacious twin round kiln oast house with access to footpaths across the fields.

Potts Farm Oast offers guests a unique opportunity to stay in a spacious twin round kiln oast house surrounded by grassland farms with access to footpaths across the fields. Once used for drying fresh hops before they were sent to the brewers to flavour the beer, it has now been thoughtfully restored and makes an ideal holiday destination for two families, an extended family or groups of friends to enjoy the beautiful Kentish countryside and discover why it holds the title of ‘The Garden of England’. Stroll through the fields and picnic in the garden in the summer or take a brisk walk in winter and then return to curl up in front of the inviting wood-burning stove. To keep guests amused, there is a games room/snug in the roundel with board games and puzzles, and outside there is an enclosed lawned garden beside the oast with children’s play equipment and an open-fronted barn. If time permits, explore Tenterden – aptly described as ‘The Jewel of the Weald’ with its weatherboarded tea shops and cottages. Take a magical ride on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway to the medieval moated castle at Bodiam. Sample the local award-winning wines at Chapel Down Winery, visit Sissinghurst Castle Gardens (National Trust) created by the novelist - Vita Sackville west and Sir Harold Nicolson in the 1930s. Rye is a 30-minute drive. Beaches and sand dunes at Camber Sands are a 40-minute drive. Shop, pub and restaurant 11/2 miles.

Step down to spacious living room with wood-burning stove. Morning room. Spacious kitchen/dining/family room. Utility/boot room. Games room/snug in roundel. Separate toilet. First floor: Step up to double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Three steps up to double bedroom in roundel. Three steps up to twin bedroom in second roundel. An absolutely gorgeous place to stay. I hired for 2 nights, to celebrate my 40th birthday with friends and everyone was very impressed with the cottage - lots of space, beautifully decorated, very well equipped kitchen, full of style and character - a perfect place for a quiet countryside getaway. It's quite expensive for just 2 nights, but we split cost between 10 of us all so it was reasonable. We walked into Tenterden (1 hour return journey) to stretch our legs, but otherwise spent our time relaxing and enjoying ourselves, keeping warm indoors. I highly recommend this stunning oast house, with its quirky features, and charming rooms. If we had stayed in the summer we would have loved to make the most of the gorgeous spacious grounds too!

We had a lovely stay and the cottage was so spacious and looked just as it did in the photos. The layout of the house and bedrooms worked perfectly for us. We visited Bodiam Castle nearby and had some lovely walks and went into Tenterden for Fish and chips and Sunday lunch at The Vine Inn and it was all great and close by. So many places still to see in the area so we would happily return. The only thing that wasn't working properly was the main oven but there was another cooker in the utility room so all was well!

We have been here twice and liked it. However, we have seen the area and would likely go somewhere else for our next UK gathering. Potts Farm accommodated our 6 adults, three children, and 2 dogs very comfortably. It has an exceptionally well equipped play room and outdoor play area for children and an extensive library for all. Our criticism deals with minor issues: An oven that would not broil and no instructions to understand why; an induction range top that burned sauces perhaps due to mismatched cookware: insufficient towel racks in one bath which we added on our own tab on the second visit; a very soft mattress in the largest bedroom, etc. If these can be corrected or overlooked, this is a nice place and area to spend a week or so.

Very spacious, interesting and original accommodation with lots of private spaces. Similarly, the exterior is very spacious with play areas for children and dogs, table tennis and table football in an enclosed area, and sitting areas for adults. Tenterden is just over a mile away with lots of interesting shops, together with Tesco and Waitrose.

Firstly, this property is off the beaten track down a single track road. Great if you want tranquility in the countryside but it's not practical if you want to walk anywhere with young children and Tenterden is well over a mile away even across the fields. The best things are.... - the overall space. Great for a large group with many separate areas - large and extremely well equipped kitchen - very large and secure outside space...plenty of room for the kids to run about. - indoor play room when outdoors is not an option The not so good things are... - four bedrooms have to share one bathroom - there isn't an area where all 10 people can sit together and relax in the evening - the kitchen table is rather tight for 10 people - the outside equipment is poor. An old and very wobbly wooden kids climbing frame with swings and slide, a table tennis table and bats in barely usable condition, a table football machine that was broken and unusable - the outside table and chairs are very tired and only seat 6 although there are an assortment of additional chairs e.g deck chairs - no BBQ facilities - the adjacent farm can hardly be described as a "working farm". We didn't see any animals or activity all week - no one called to check if we had any concerns (but we were left with some milk, wine and other essentials which was nice) - some aspects of the interior are a little shabby but in keeping with the age and condition of the property and perhaps more suited for pets and younger children Overall we had great weather and really enjoyed our family week together. We were just about satisfied with what we paid for the accommodation but felt that had we paid "peak" prices we may have been less so.

Amazing house, spent a week celebrating Granddad's 70th birthday. The garden is beautiful and the lawn makes an excellent football pitch. The house has lots of room so everyone found space to relax. Would thoroughly recommend, we didn't want to come home.
