This beautiful cottage is ideally located in the pretty village of Newtown, ensuring enjoyment of this stunning, picturesque area of Cornwall

Newtown is a small hamlet on the Lizard Peninsula, within easy reach of the beautiful Helford River creeks and coastline and is ideally located for exploring the south west coastal paths and small coves of this glorious peninsula. Very convenient for visiting the tranquil sailing waters of the south coast or the rugged surf beaches of the north coast. This holiday cottage fronts onto the road and provides comfortable accommodation with a relaxing enclosed rear garden and patio. The area is popular with walkers, bird watchers and wild life enthusiasts with sailing, water sports, cycle trails, golf or simply relaxing on one of the glorious hidden coves; boats and kayaks can be hired at St Anthony 3 miles away. Sub tropical gardens including Trebah, Durgan, Trelissike and NT properties including St Michaels Mount at Marazion. The Lizard Peninsula is the most southerly point in the UK with Coverack beach, Mullion Cove and harbour and the beautiful beach at Kynance Cove. The historic town of Helston famous for its May Flora Day, Flambard’s theme park and RNAS Culdrose air station all just a short drive. The busy port and town of Falmouth is only a 30 minutes’ drive with shops, galleries and The National Maritime Museum. The town hosts numerous high profile sailing and maritime events, food fayres and music festivals on the busy Events Square. Pendennis Castle sits proudly on the headland, built by Henry VI and mirrors St Mawes Castle on the opposite peninsula. I booked this for my brother and family here from new zealand. The cottage was in a perfect position for visiting all the areas from our childhood, Gillan, porthallow, coverack etc, and perfect to attend the Helston floral dance on the 8th may.

It is a cosy cottage but it is not as dog friendly as we had hoped - cream carpets and nowhere to dry two dogs!!

The cottage is barely adequate, lacking some very basic equipment. It is also on a very noisy road, with HGVs and very large tractors thundering by within just a few feet of the house. There are no parking facilities. The cottage is extremely small, even for just two adults. The village is unattractive and the local pub only serves basic food.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Welcome Cottages have a list of equipment expected in their premises, and as I am currently spending two weeks holidaying at Polwin, I can confirm everything is in place as it should be. We take pride in our attention to detail and as I am a keen cook/baker provide many extras above and beyond the standard requirement. Polwin is set in a rural environment, so tractors etc. are part of the traffic, however as mentioned in an earlier review, once inside, the double glazing eliminates their impact. The visitors book at Polwin contains comments that the premises is nicely decorated, relaxing, comfortable and has everything a family needs, especially when self catering. Others have found the location handy as a good base for accessing west Cornwall. And there is profuse praise for the friendly pub.
