Description

A Grade II listed character cottage for two, tucked in the heart of the fishing village of Staithes.

At the bottom of the steep cobbled bank in the heart of the quaint fishing village of Staithes is this Grade II listed terraced character cottage. Step back in time as you wander the ginnels and alleyways where traditional cottages cling to the cliff edge. Staithes nestles deep in the valley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and is an ideal holiday base from which to explore both the Moors and the East Yorkshire Coast. The Victorian seaside town of Saltburn to the north is just 8 miles with Whitby 12 miles to the south. Cliff top walks and access to the Cleveland Way afford breathtaking views across the coastline. Shop and restaurant 150 yards, beach and pub 50 yards.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with wooden floor. Kitchen with tiled floor. Beams throughout. First floor: 1 double bedroom with beams. Bathroom with toilet.

Electric woodburner in living room included. Economy 7 central heating, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Freeview TV (limited signal). DVD. Electric cooker. Public car park (permit provided).

Fantastic long weekend. The location was great and really loved the cottage. The only negative is the need to have a shower installed in the property.

The cottage was lovely and had lots of really great touches- it was cosy and perfectly placed for exploring the cobbled fishing village of Staithes and the wider Yorkshire coast. A good supply of kitchen equipment (including foil/ freezer bags), Books, dvds, board games, and a realm of information on getting the best from the surrounding area. It was a last minute booking and then I read a number of poor reviews after and was dreading it. The dreadful pictures of the cottage added to that fear and as I drove up to Staithes I was writing my own bad review. But those fears evaporated as I stepped over the threshold. We loved every minute of our stay. OK... That said.... There are things that some guests may have issues with. 1) parking is at the top of the village- which requires a particularly steep walk of approximately a third of a mile. So if you have mobility issues then you'll face some difficulties. 2) the cottage is small - meaning low doorways, tiny bath, and somewhat uncomfortable furniture in the living room (although the sofa did convert into a bed). 3) whilst the cottage was clean (and the bed was super comfy)- the kitchen could do with a deep clean. Cutlery etc needed a wash. Although I blame other guests and not the owner of the cottage. 4) finally the booking confirmation email gave too detailed and ultimately poor directions to the cottage. I'd simply say get to the 'cod & lobster' pub and go up the steps into high barrass.

Loved the cottage so cosy especially in the evening near the coast.

Lovely little cottage in a beautiful place - would definitely go again. Convenient location for exploring the East Coast. The local pubs all do good food at reasonable prices (2 pubs on the doorstep and another a short walk up the hill). Only thing stopping me giving it a 10 was the lack of a shower - the bath was fine but quite small. Also beware of low door frames - my husband took a few knocks to the head until he got used to ducking them!

Just too small, too dark & no outside space - sorry.

Husband said in the 4 yrs of 'holiday cottaging' this is the best yet! (But he is a Saltburn boy). It was lovely, and better than expected weather made the stay :-) Cottage beautifuly decorated with all we needed including T pot and cosy! Loved the traditional bathroom fittings. Location and age of cottage means it could feel damp but owner has taken steps to minimalise this. Great for the dog too with small beach, lots of cliff walks and all those little passageways to sniff. Not a good location for those who find climbing and uneven surfaces hard to negotiate. Having a rucksack made carrying shopping down from the carpark much easier. We would definatly return while we are still 'fit and able'.

Stayed at Pilgrim Cottage 2 years ago and enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately it would seem nothing had been done to it since then. The cottage was generally clean apart from a few things, the worst being the grill on the cooker had not been cleaned and was full of fat. The cottage was also very damp and after a couple of days all of our clothes that were in the wardrobe started to smell. The bed was also very uncomfortable! There was no fitted shower but there was one of these shower fittings that connected to the taps. Unfortunately you couldn't use it as it had a split in it and sprayed water everywhere. Such a shame as the location is beautiful and we enjoyed staying there previously, which is why we decided to return there for our first wedding anniversary.

Absolutely beautiful, such a lovely cottage, photos do not give it justice as I fell in love the minute I walked in! So close to everything too. Simply lovely x
