Description

In a lovely village setting, this Grade II listed property is in a great position to explore the many attractions in the area.

Situated at the end of a lane, Pepper Pot Cottage is the middle section of a Grade II listed building in a beautiful quiet area of the South Downs National Park. On the ground floor it has a good sized living room with an open fire, fully-equipped kitchen, a twin bedroom and a cloakroom with toilet. Upstairs are two good-sized bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, the other a twin, and a bathroom.
It has a south-facing garden with a patio, garden table and barbecue for eating out, and is approached by a path which follows through to a further property. There is a shop/tea room and a pub 70 yards away, and a community tennis court and recreation ground in the village. Next to the cottage is a bridle path. Wonderful walks, cycling routes, welcoming pubs and lovely scenery are all around. The West Sussex Falconry, Uppark House (NT), the South Downs Way and a variety of golf courses are close by. Goodwood for horse and motor racing, Petworth, Midhurst, Cowdray Polo, Chichester with its cobbled streets and cathedral, and the beaches at Hayling Island and The Witterings are a short drive away. Portsmouth with HMS Victory, Gun Wharf Quay and day trips to the Isle of Wight are within easy reach. Jane Austen’s House at Chawton, the Watercress Steam Railway, Birdworld and Winchester make good day trips. Beach 15 miles. Shop, pub and tea room 70 yards.

Pepper pot is charming. It is s listed building where improvements have to be agreed. I feel more could be done to improve the interior. The bathroom and cloakroom are no more than basic. I expected better. Kitchen well equipped. Carpets in Kitchen & Bathroom just harbour germs. Anticompetitive or similar would be better.

The best thing in my view about the cottage is its location. Situated in the village of Compton in the South Downs there are walks from the door and a lovely local shop and pub with 70 yards. Whilst the cottage itself is well equipped and the beds comfortable the downstairs bedroom was damp and the bathroom bin had not been emptied on arrival - would not like to speculate on its contents but suffice to say the smell was not nice. We did however have a good holiday and would certainly return to this area at some future time.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- I have passed on your comments to the cleaners to ensure all bins are checked and cleaned. The leading in a roof valley was redone last year. However we have identified an area around a chimney which wasn't done correctly. We have arranged for the builder to redo this area which will stop dampness penetrating the chimney.
